Last Friday, rising Bradford rap storyteller and multi-hyphenate kenzo jae released his sophomore mixtape SLOTH via Launchpad+ and EMI North.

An alternative rap mixtape drawing influences from across the worlds of hip-hop, synth-pop and indie, SLOTH presents a compelling body of work that tackles ambition, anxiety, love and in kenzo’s own words, “the uncertainty that comes with being young today.”

In celebration of the mixtape, kenzo will be hitting the road this Autumn with three intimate shows in Leeds, London and Manchester, as well as performing at BD Fest and Humber Street Sesh this summer.

Today, LIFE return with their 4th studio album, ABSTRACT / NATURAL, via EMI North label partner, Launchpad+.

On the album, characters rooted in folklore and landscape sit alongside reflections on fatherhood, freedom and personal evolution, forming a body of work that feels both intimate and outward-looking. The album began life not in a rehearsal room, but on the pages of a poetry book frontman Mez has been writing; a collection of musings on landscape, nature, love, acceptance and letting go.

Accompanying the album are 3 limited edition vinyl (inc. a Dinked Edition), and the band will be hitting the road next week for their instore store (Brighton, London, Liverpool & Leeds), before returning in Autumn for a full tour.

BLK SCL! is a multi-strand intervention designed to scale up Black music talent, infrastructure and ownership across the North of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We're proud to share that label strand BLK SCL! Sound has partnered with EMI North. The partnership connects BLK SCL!’s independent, curator-led vision with major-label insight, infrastructure and reach.

This welcome also includes the label’s first two signed artists – KOJ, the sound of defiance rising from working-class Liverpool with a voice shaped by modern Britain, and Mace The Great, a Welsh artist and cultural force whose work reflects the richness, complexity and creativity of Black identity shaping how Wales is heard and seen through a Black lens.

Fast-rising multihyphenate rap talent kenzo jae shares 'end of the world', the final single ahead of his forthcoming mixtape SLOTH, out 17th July via Launchpad+ and EMI North.

Where certain songs written about the current state of the world reach for hope, 'end of the world' heads straight for the dancefloor. Disco-influenced and Daft Punk-adjacent via its flaring synths and irresistible groove, the track taps into feelings commonly shared among many young people today; a desensitised numbness and powerlessness at the seeming inevitability of the global events unfolding before them, and all of their subsequent knock-on effects.

Today, LIFE share ‘Wild Grasses’, the latest single from their forthcoming new album ABSTRACT / NATURAL, arriving June 19 via EMI North label partner Launchpad+.

Written in the Lake District and pondering many of the themes first explored in lead single ‘The Dollywaggon’, album opener and new single ‘Wild Grasses’ presents the East Yorkshire quartet at their most intoxicating and uplifting. Bursting with energy and radiating joy via its euphoric synth lines, strummed acoustic guitars and rapturous group vocals, the track’s references to geography and landscape reflect the location it was written while also widely echoing the overall sense of adventure omnipresent across ABSTRACT / NATURAL, instilling a feeling of kinship as vocalist Mez Sanders-Green emphatically declares ‘I belong to wild grasses’.
