Police were called to Northgate in Heckmondwike at 8.30pm on Friday following a report of an assault.

Officers found a 15-year-old girl with a head injury. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 13-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault. Enquiries are ongoing.

Last night around 8pm, a car caught fire outside LUX Tyres and Car Wash on Hopwood Lane in Halifax.

Emergency crews were on scene and the road was closed while they dealt with the incident. The vehicle was later recovered. No injuries reported.

Tributes paid to 13-year-old who died in Yorkshire Dales river

The 13-year-old girl from Bradford sadly died after being rescued from the River Wharfe near Burnsall in the Yorkshire Dales.

Palwasha Akbar was reported missing last Sunday evening. She was pulled from the water and airlifted to hospital, but passed away shortly after despite efforts by emergency services and bystanders.

Bronte Girls’ Secondary Academy paid tribute, describing her as a “star pupil” known for her compassion. The school community is deeply saddened and offering support to students and staff.

An inquest opens on 18 June.

Campervan blaze: Man arrested on suspicion of arson

Following enquiries into the campervan fire on Beaconsfield Street in the Acomb area of York, police have arrested a 58-year-old local man on suspicion of arson.

Firefighters were alerted to the scene at 10.45pm on Thursday (4 June 2026).

The white campervan was extensively damaged by the fire, and two cars parked nearby were partially melted.

Nearby homes had damaged windows, and a business premise sustained damage due to the blaze.

Several households had to be evacuated as a safety precaution, but they were allowed back in their homes by 11.40pm.

It is being treated as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public.

Man hit by two cars at Leeds BP garage in targeted attack

A man in his 40s was struck by two cars after getting out of a Volkswagen Golf at the BP garage on the A64 York Road in Seacroft last night.

It happened around 8.45pm on Thursday 4 June. The two cars pulled up, hit him, then drove off. The victim got back into the Golf, which then left the scene.

He was later found in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police are treating it as a targeted assault involving vehicles.
