“Some call him the Elon Musk of Bristol.” 🚀

James Cornwell from Curated Property is previewing the Bath edition of the Host Planet Roadshow (7 October) – and the first name on his list? Johnny Palmer.

A “nutty professor,” Johnny is a serial entrepreneur with multiple exits, a string of B-Corp companies, and various profitable businesses to his name. In an industry full of smoke and mirrors, he’s the real deal – someone who’s actually played the game and won, more than once.

This is the kind of speaker you’ll be in the room with in Bath.

Chatbot vs. agent – what’s the actual difference? 🤖

Moran Goldboim from BOOM breaks it down on AI-Powered Hosting:

💬 A chatbot gives you an answer.
⚡ An agent gets something done.

Agentic AI receives goals, makes its own decisions within boundaries, uses your tools and systems, and completes entire multi-step workflows – with the full context. It’s not just replying. It’s operating.

For short-term rental hosts, that’s the leap from “AI that helps” to “AI that runs it.”

“Not everyone can get to London.” 🚫🚂

James Cornwell from Curated Property on why the STR world needs to get out of the capital and into the regions.

The community’s been fragmented for years. Real change happens when hosts, operators and managers actually get in a room together – in places people can genuinely reach. Small kids, families, businesses to run… London isn’t always realistic.

That’s the whole point of the Host Planet Roadshow. 🚐

Why aren’t more property managers using AI to run their businesses? Moran Goldboim of Boom thinks it’s not what you’d expect.

It’s not really about trust. It’s about experience – most of us haven’t had our “aha moment” with AI in business yet.

Sure, we’ve had it in everyday life: it drafted the presentation, it answered our kid’s question. But we haven’t yet felt it in the business – and especially not with AI making an actual decision for us.

That, Moran says, is the moment everything shifts: when AI jumps in, makes a call you didn’t expect, and you think, “wow – I can see exactly how this leverages my business.”

Trust follows experience. Have you had your aha moment yet?

Worried AI is going to automate your revenue management job out of existence? Zak Ali of the ISTRM has a reassuring take.

On STR Pricing Pulse, he made the point clearly: no matter how much AI and automation you bring into your pricing system, someone still has to govern it – set the policies, own the strategy, and review performance. That part doesn’t go away.

“We all started with one. One owner. One unit.”

On the Host Planet Podcast, Anne Gardener of the VRMA gets to the heart of what growth in short-term rentals really takes.

Whether you manage 500 properties or 2,000 today, it comes down to the same mechanics: how you build a professional business and scale it – through connection, learning, and the legacy that creates. It’s a ripple effect, and it starts exactly where you are right now.

That’s why the learning at VRMA International is layered: from hosting 1 or 10 properties all the way to building for scale. Not just for those already at the top – for all of us building today, in an environment that’s changing fast.

Wherever you are on the curve, there’s a next step – and this year’s event in Nashville from 4-6 October will help you get there.

Think you have to be the cheapest to win direct bookings? You don’t.

On Build for Growth, Roger Gould of Hostfully breaks down how to price your direct booking site against the OTAs:

You have options – test different price points. But the discount is just one lever, and it’s often not the best one.

The real advantage is what you can offer direct that guests can’t get through an OTA: upsells like early check-in and late check-out, add-ons, experiences. Book through Airbnb? None of it’s available. Book direct? A whole menu of extras opens up – better for the guest, better for your margin.

Compete on value, not just price.

“It’s not the theoretical – it’s what people can actually use and take away.”

Anne Gardener of the VRMA on what to expect from this year’s VRMA International in Nashville – and we’re proud to be a Media Partner at the event.

The focus this year is practical, take-home knowledge. Leave after three days with: → a business strategy → a plan → the concrete steps to get there

On the agenda: navigating consolidation and M&A, how companies are really scaling, and the practical applications of AI (not the hype). Plus a big expansion of peer-based learning and networking.

See you in Nashville.

Managing 1,200 properties by checking all 1,200 by hand isn’t “being in control.” It’s just being busy.

On STR Pricing Pulse, Zak Ali of the ISTRM breaks down how to scale revenue management – by exception.

Let the system do the triage: → 1,054 operating within range → 146 need attention → 38 could materially affect revenue → 12 genuinely need human judgement

Now your team isn’t spending the morning hunting for problems. They’re spending it solving the ones that matter.
