This Sunday: We always wondered if Summer Tonic (or Winter Tonic for that matter) would return to Gin Lane in Halifax, and it kind of has, with its spiritual successor at what is now the Somerset House venue on the same site.

We were there for this exact gig on the courtyard space two years ago, and now Victor Simonelli is coming back for the sequel.

If you missed that one, here's a chance to experience the magic of a DJ and producer whose name is synonymous with the very foundation of New York City's underground dance music scene.

Victor's production and remix discography is a 'Who's Who' of music icons, including collabs and remixes for David Bowie, Will Downing, Talking Heads, Quincy Jones, Debbie Harry, Sinead O'Connor, Al Jarreau, Michael Jackson and Madonna. He's responsible for countless classic house anthems under various aliases like NY's Finest, Groove Committee and Creative Force, released on labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Fourth Floor and Nu Groove. His influence is immense, with his soulful, uplifting, and timeless sound shaping generations of house music.

Victor will be bringing a rare taste of NYC house to Halifax, once again.

This Friday: Boombox Circus is back at Beaver Works for a sensational Summer Special on Friday May 23rd. And this time, they're buzzing to welcome the Oppidan for an exclusive outdoor set as the sun goes down.

Oppidan has rapidly become one of the fastest-rising names in UKG, renowned for her distinctive style. Expect a dynamic blend of 2-step rhythms with 4x4 and heavy bass influences. Her tracks are fresh, energetic and consistently push the boundaries of modern UKG, influenced by hip-hop, soul, grime, and UK bass.

Plus, as always, Boombox Circus brings its full, vibrant experience with five areas of music and all the usual spectacular shenanigans: performers, fairground rides, food, magicians, fire breathers, and one of the most up-for-it crowds in Leeds.

The line-up is stacked with talent across multiple genres, with special guests including Congo Natty (live stage show), Ed Solo, Anaïs, Killa P, A For Alpha, Paige Eliza, Origin8a & Propa.

Event News: The 5 O'Clock Club have dropped some hints as to who is playing their Autumn and Winter parties this year at the Victoria Casino.
Coming up in June they will be welcoming Moplen, as he flies over from Italy to play. If authentic disco is your vibe, you've no doubt heard his multitrack remixes of the likes of 'The Love I Lost' and 'Shame', that take and adjust the original production values without any modernisation.

September will be the First Birthday Party for the 5 O'Clock Club, and an original New York house pioneer and anthem creator is coming to Leeds to make their 5 O'Clock debut. Tickets for that will go on sale in June, quite possibly after the June event has taken place.

The November guest DJ will be a Glitterbox favourite who has also produced hundreds of records, and the promoters are promising an additional surprise to make that one not to miss.

Both of those guest DJs are big names, but we've been sworn to secrecy. You'll find out closer to the Sept and Nov dates!

We attended their Tom Wainwright party last month, and the vibe at each event has been getting stronger each time. It's building a regular base of returning punters, along with new faces that are discovering the event as time goes on.

Our highlight in Feb was Christian Appleby opening his set with the sublime H2O feat. Billie 'Nobody's Business', and playing the best set that we've heard from him since the event launched.
Interesting trivia about that record. It was originally an electro-funk track back in 1986 with production by Boyd Jarvis and Timmy Regisford, but it wasn't until ten years later that Oliver Stumm and Stephan Mandrax would give it a new lease of life (and wider recognition) as a smooth vocal house track.

Tonight: It seems like an ideal coalition, so you'd be forgiven for wondering why Leeds' premier nu-disco event Downtown Disco hadn't previously been paid a visit by Dave Lee. Well, tonight's when we finally see the Z Records boss make that move.

He has an incredible discography of work behind him, including 'Can't Get High Without U', 'Make A Move On Me', 'Play 2 Win' and 'Starlight', plus remixes on anthems like 'Direct Me', 'Little L' and 'Backfired'.

The promoters said: "Dave’s been a guest artist we’ve been waiting to play since we launched, so we’re delighted to finally have him come to entertain our Downtown Disco family. It’s been a long wait!"

While we've seen him play in Manchester twice thanks to our brother media brand Manchester AfterDark, this will be our first experience seeing him play in West Yorks.
