Breaking news at Leeds United as the major stadium expansion is approved!
Leeds City Council has just given the green light for the redevelopment of Elland Road, with plans to take the stadium capacity from 37,000 to 53,000. It will make it the seventh largest club stadium in the UK ⚽
Notable changes are to the Kop and the West Stand, which will both be partially demolished and expanded. The West Stand will double in size, with space for 17,750 fans, a sensory room and even a ‘museum’ (but details on that are limited at the moment!).
The redevelopment of the stadium is expected to generate 600,000 new visitors a year and help Leeds United meet demands for tickets, with 26,000 supporters currently on the season ticket waiting list 🫨
And panic over, the club has confirmed that away fans WILL continue to be housed in the West Stand, with the South Stand remaining home supporters only 🤍
Councillors voted 11 to 1 in favour of the redevelopment in today’s meeting.
It is hoped that work will be complete before the Women’s World Cup in 2035!
