If you ever needed an excuse for a pub crawl… this Leeds history trail might just be it šŸ»šŸ‘€

Leeds Civic Trust have created a photography walk around the city centre to celebrate their 60th birthday. Each photo featured in the ā€˜Back And Forth’ trail shows a different iconic venue back in the 60s and 70s… and conveniently, they’re all pubs now! šŸ˜…

But they certainly weren’t always! Some people might even remember when White Cloth Hall was Raine Bros - a plumbers merchant 🫨

There’s six different spots to check out on Leeds Civic Trust trail:

šŸ“ Lamb & Flag
šŸ“ White Cloth Hall
šŸ“ Farrands Bar
šŸ“ The Moot Hall Arms
šŸ“ The Brewery Tap
šŸ“ Fred Aldous (Don’t worry though… there’s the The Duck & Drake right next door for your pint 🤣)

We now have more details on the food village coming to Kirkgate Market šŸ‘€

STACK was confirmed as the preferred operator for a new ā€˜container-style’ venue last year… and now they’ve signed the lease!

It’s all subject to licensing and planning approval, but the start of construction could be just months away, with hopes that the venue could open later in 2026.

Stack Leeds is due to be spread across two floors and be home to two large digital screens, as well as a stage for live music and other entertainment. There’ll be ten street food outlets, six bars and a coffee shop - with 160 new jobs to be created!

STACK has venues across the country, including Newcastle, Lincoln and Manchester.

The new venue would be where the current outdoor market area is at Leeds Markets meaning less space for traditional outdoor trading. There’s currently 185 stalls available, but the Leeds City Council reckons at peak times, only 85 of them are used by traders.

Introducing the first ever deep fried lasagne SANDWICH in Leeds 🫨

Remember the viral deep fried lasagne from the team at Stuzzi Leeds? Well, they’ve returned to Trinity Kitchen in their ā€˜Deep Fried Lasagne Van’… with a pretty whacky new creation on the menu! [AD]

Meet the ā€˜La-Sanga’ - a huge baked sub filled with Nduja Ketchup, Cacio E Pepe Caesar dressing, lettuce and crispy deep fried lasagne bites… it’s a proper messy sarnie 🄪

They even get their bread fresh from Leeds favourite Things In Bread / Bake too!

Don’t worry, it’s not all completely new! They still have their classic deep fried lasagne (with meat, veggie and vegan options available!) and also Italian style loaded fries - think beef ragu toppings and caprese style too šŸ

If you’re a lasagne lover, you’ll be in heaven here 🤤🄪

The one Leeds rule that’s transformed the way the city recycles! ā™»ļø

But some are still getting it wrongā€¦āŒšŸ‘€

August 1st not only marks Yorkshire Day šŸ¤ but also the day Leeds made a BIG change to bin rules in Leeds households. [Partnership post with Leeds City Council]

On this day in 2024, it became allowed for glass bottles and jars to be disposed of in your green bin - and not just at bottle banks šŸ¾

And it’s a move that’s seen nearly 12,000 tonnes of glass recycled by residents in 12 months. The glass is sorted at HW Martin recycling centre in Beeston and then remelted and made into new bottles at facilities right here in Yorkshire šŸ‘

Glass recycling levels have increased from 48% to 75% in that time, with Leeds City Council thanking residents for their efforts šŸ™‚

But it means 25% of glass that could be recycled is still ending up in black bins šŸ‘Ž

The council is encouraging everyone to do their bit this coming year - remembering that all bottles and jars CAN be recycled.

BUT, remember that drinking glasses, oven-proof or pyrex dishes and also light blubs CAN’T! These still need to go in your black bin šŸ‘

Who knew that once a year Victoria Gate carpark becomes a HUGE racetrack?! 🫨

ā€˜Rampage’ sees cyclists of all abilities putting their legs and lungs to the test by cycling up the top floors of the car park as quickly as possible! And even better… It's all for charity! [AD]

The heartwarming reason behind it, is the Kids On Bikes scheme šŸ‘

Yorkshire Children’s Charity and Olympian cyclist Tom Pidcock teamed up to create the initiative, which gives inner-city children the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike out in the countryside. Many of the children involved have never had a bike before, so it’s all about giving them a chance to give it a try! 🚲

This year, Rampage at Victoria Leeds has raised over £6,500 already! What an effort!

If you want to donate to Yorkshire Children's Charity or sign up to take part next year, check out the link in our bio: https://linktr.ee/leedsplussocial

This bar up in Seacroft is a touching tribute to a truly wonderful woman!

Greens was founded just last year, and honours owner Daniel’s late wife Dakota, who passed away from cancer at just 30 years old. Daniel says Dakota had ā€˜an undeniable passion for a good drink’ and so to honour her memory, Greens was born šŸ’š

Dakota is right at the heart of Greens Leeds, it being named after her favourite colour, with the menu here filled with her tipples of choice. We’re talking strawberry and lime Kopparberg cider on tap - and deals on her favourite, JƤgerbombs, all year round šŸ™Œ

It’s family (and friend!) run here, with Daniel’s best mate Nicola and her son (Daniel’s adopted son) Luke working to keep the drinks flowing into the night. You’ll even catch Dakota and Daniel’s 10-year-old son Ethan helping out sometimes too… when he’s not at school šŸ˜‰

It’s all about community, laughter and remembering a genuinely remarkable woman here šŸ‘

This place will be the biggest new city park in the UK when it’s done… and it’s now one step closer to completion 🤩

Aire Park is a huge 24-acre development surrounding The Tetley building - and will eventually contain a mix of office buildings, community facilities and 6200msq of green space.

The new section of the park - officially open as of today - is the largest bit yet, and reconnects The Tetley building to Crown Point Road for pedestrians.

You can expect big open lawns on the park, plus quieter paths, play mounds and flower gardens. When fully complete the new development will bring over 700 new trees and 100 different types of plants to the Southbank area of Leeds.

Operators Vastint UK say that in addition to the green space, the finished park will also feature attractions including a multi-functional year-round events space, seasonal outdoor markets, a children’s play area and a 1km exercise route.

There will eventually be 800,000 sq ft of office space too, plus retail and residential areas.

What do you think of Leeds city centre’s newest green space so far?
