It's 2026, and as of yet, no country has achieved gender equality.

At the current pace of progress, the world still has a long way to go before women and girls enjoy the same rights and protections as men.

Sunday is International Women’s Day.

Our team member Maria has been cycling 500 miles - to Scotland and back - attempting to raise funds in support of Su***de Prevention and to help promote our new film, “Su***de in the Family” - see what she says here:

“Hello, I am cycling 500 miles this week and next to raise awareness for su***de prevention month (September) I’m riding from red brick Leeds to Manchester the long way making it there by the 10th (su***de prevention day) becauuuse..

This year, with my powerful Leeds Animation Workshop team we made a film that helps support children and young people bereaved by parental su***de. ‘Su***de in the Family’ the film looks at the ways children and young people may be affected when a parent dies by su***de, and shows the best ways their families, carers or professionals can support them. It’s really important because many children who lose a parent to su***de are at a higher risk of physical or mental illness, and even of taking their own lives.

Leeds Animation Workshop is a small, not for profit, women-led collective, making award winning social documentaries for over 40 years. Helping start conversations about a whoooole array of subjects: equality, domestic violence, gender and sexuality, LGBTQ+ identities, families, workers rights, world conflict, climate change and more.

I’m doing this cycle to fundraise for Leeds Animation Workshop, so that we can disseminate‘Su***de in the Family’ further and continue making more meaningful and accessible films.

And if you like this (cycling, mental health awareness, animation, meaningful accessible media 🤷) and have a little to give, it would really help 🧡🧡
