I Signed Up For An Influence Retreat — I Didn’t Expect This…😮

I’ve just completed Richard McCann’s 3-day Influence Retreat at the beautiful Oulton Hall Hotel — and WOW what an AMAZING experience it’s been.

Three days of stepping back, digging deep, challenging assumptions, and learning how to communicate with even greater clarity, confidence and impact.

Comfort Zone…🤔

We all talk about it like it’s an actual object.

But what does it really look like?

All I know is that today, I definitely stepped out of mine.

Day 1 on Richard McCann’s incredible Keynote Speaker Training course — and wow… what an experience already.

I’ve spent years presenting in boardrooms, leading teams, and championing brands… but today reminded me that powerful speaking is a completely different craft.

Richard’s style is raw, honest and so deeply human. Within minutes he had us thinking differently about storytelling, connection and the impact we can create when we speak with authenticity rather than perfection.

A few things that hit home today:
🔹 Your story matters more than your slides
🔹 Vulnerability builds connection
🔹 It’s not about performing — it’s about serving your audience
🔹 Confidence comes from clarity, not volume

The room was full of energy, support, humour and genuine encouragement. If today is anything to go by, the rest of this journey is going to be transformational.

From Trade Shows to True Friendship 💫

Over 10 years ago, I met Nick Needs at a trade show in Las Vegas while working in my previous role. We connected instantly — one of those rare, genuine moments when business unexpectedly introduces you to people who become lifelong friends.

Fast forward to today.

It’s a beautiful reminder that some of the most meaningful relationships can start with a handshake on a show floor.

Business can be about much more than products, pipelines, or projects — sometimes, it’s about the people you meet along the way.
