How much can a slow reader actually read in 1 hour? Let’s find out! 🥹💫 It is VERY rare that I’m actually able to read on public transport! Usually, I get really bad motion sickness but today I was feeling good. The train was empty, the sun was out, the views were gorgeous and this book is wonderful. 📚🌷

Hello to all the new faces who’ve found their way here recently, I thought I’d reintroduce myself.

I’m Kenny, 26, a self-employed social media and influencer marketing consultant by day and a cosy bookish content creator the rest of the time. I live in a leafy suburb of Leeds with my boyfriend Zac, and most of my life now is a mix of reading, travelling around Yorkshire, drinking far too much coffee and turning the books I read into little reflections about life.

My corner of the internet is all about slow living, autumn energy, cosycore moments, and using stories as a way to understand yourself a bit better. I talk about the books I’m loving, the places I’m visiting, the habits I’m learning, and all the loops I’m trying to break along the way.

If you’re into cosy reading, cottagecore travel, creative living and gentle personal commentary, I’m really glad you’re here.

Feel free to say hello in the comments and tell me what you’re reading at the moment.

My first five-star read in three months, and it completely earned it.

If We Were Villains by M. L. Rio has everything I love in a book: dark academia, theatre, friendship, betrayal, and writing that feels both lyrical and devastating.

It’s a story about art and obsession, about how far people will go for the roles they play both on stage and in real life. It’s atmospheric, emotional, and full of tension from the very first page.

Apparently, if you loved The Secret History, this one deserves a spot at the top of your reading list.

Your twenties are strange. You’re old enough to know who you are, but young enough to feel like you’re running out of time to become someone else.

I’ve been collecting quotes from books and essays that perfectly capture that messy middle. The pressure to have it all figured out, the fear that you haven’t lived enough, and the quiet reminder that no one really has it together.

Reading these words feels like taking a deep breath. They remind me that being unsure isn’t failure, it’s part of the story.

I’ve been thinking a lot about loops lately, the little patterns we fall into without realising. The habits, the thoughts, the fears that quietly repeat until something finally makes us stop and notice them.

Reading Elektra by Jennifer Saint made that click for me. The story centres on a family cursed to repeat their mistakes, no matter how hard they try to change. And while I don’t have an ancient curse to blame, I do have my own loops. Overworking. Overthinking. Saying yes when I don’t mean it.

What I’m learning is that breaking those patterns doesn’t always mean becoming a whole new person. Sometimes it’s just pausing long enough to try one thing differently.

You don’t need a new story, just a new script.

If you like reflections like this, you can find longer pieces on my Substack where I dive deeper into these ideas and back them up with studies. The link is in my bio.

10 before the end 💫📚🥹

Every year, as soon as the temperature drops, I start reading incessantly. The cosy vibes just call to me: candles lit, tea on the go, and a stack of books that somehow keeps growing.

I’ve pulled together the 10 books I want to finish before the end of the year, and honestly, it’s looking like a fantasy-heavy line-up with a few spooky reads and bits of literary fiction sprinkled in.

There’s something about this time of year that makes reading feel even more magical. The dark nights, the quiet evenings, the comfort of stories that pull you completely out of your world.

Here’s to the final stretch of the reading year.

October reading wrap-up 🍂

I finished four books this month: Queen B and Human Rites by Juno Dawson, I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh, and Elektra by Jennifer Saint.

Most of my reading happened on holiday, and if I’m honest, I didn’t read as much as I hoped to once I got home. Work was full-on, and I started (and ended) the month with chunky books that slowed me down a bit.

But I’m trying not to see that as a bad thing anymore. I used to be so focused on how many books I read rather than how much I enjoyed them. This month, every single one was a solid, satisfying read and that’s more than enough for me.

Here’s to slower reading, less pressure, and more stories that stick with you.

I’ve finally started a Substack and my first article is live. 💫🫣📝

It explores something I’ve been thinking about for a while: why are we, as humans, so fascinated by violence and true crime in books, films, and TV?

We read it, we watch it, we listen to it but what are we really looking for?

Is it fear? Control? Curiosity? Or is it just a safe way to explore danger from the comfort of the sofa?

This piece looks at the psychology behind our obsession with dark stories and what they might be giving us emotionally: a sense of understanding, safety, even empathy.

You can read it now via the Substack link in my bio!

I can’t wait to share more articles over there. Deep dives inspired by the books I’m reading, the stories I love, and the ideas they spark long after I’ve finished them.

I’ve read three books recently that made me think about jealousy differently.

In If We Were Villains and Katabasis, it’s all about academic rivalry. The fine line between admiration and obsession.

In Her Majesty’s Royal Coven, it’s the kind of jealousy that creeps in when you see your friends growing in ways you wish you were too.

Jealousy gets called toxic all the time, but I think it’s more complex than that. It can be a mirror, showing you what you actually want. It’s only harmful when you let it harden into comparison.

Maybe jealousy isn’t the villain we think it is maybe it’s the motivation you’ve been trying to ignore.

Hey, I’m Kenny 👋 I’m 26, self-employed, and a full-time cosy-core content creator.

I’ve always been really sensitive to the change in seasons — as soon as the nights draw in and the days feel shorter, my mood drops right with them. When I used to live alone and work from home, it hit especially hard.

Over time, I’ve learned that I can’t change the weather, but I can change how I move through it. Reading more, getting outside, nesting, and learning new things have all helped me make peace with this time of year instead of dreading it.

If you feel the same when winter rolls in — you’re definitely not alone. Let’s make this season a little softer together. 🍂
