This year we were given the chance to make a film in our home town of Leicester about Cancer.

21 years ago Matt Holt set up The MGL Media Production Co in reaction to a profound loss. He lost his dad, Colin Holt. Colin had pancreatic cancer and was gone within 2 months of the diagnosis. Matt was 27 and already unhappy in his current job he decided to set up his own business at LCB Depot back in 2004.

In the interim the business and Matt set up another company Spoon Jar Films Ltd to make documentaries because no one was asking MGL Media to make any, so Spoon Jar commissioned itself and as a result Matt & Wayne honed their skills making long form films available to the public. (also ones Matt’s mum could enjoy)

Making this film was tough for all the crew but probably even more so for the cancer survivors who gave us their time and their stories and of whom we are eternally greatful.

Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund the film is now publically available and is part of Media Archive for Central England (MACE)
