We are saddened to hear of the passing of the great South African pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim, aged 91.

A pioneer of South African jazz, Abdullah was a giant of the global jazz scene, drawing on works by the likes of Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. He joined Jamie in 2019 to discuss music and Monk’s influence.

He leaves behind an incredible legacy, and an impact that will undoubtedly continue to serve jazz for many years to come.

Tune into Radio 2 from 9pm tonight to hear Jamie’s tribute to a jazz great.
