GRASSROOTS: Inside the World’s Only Lawnmower Museum

Brian Radam’s one-of-a-kind Southport museum is home to a celeb smorgasboard of lawn tools.

“Lumbering through the turnstile, I’m faced by several hundred mean, green, grass-cutting machines. It’s like being inside a Homebase with plaques instead of prices. There are 200 on show and around 2000 more in storage.”

SECULAR EXORCISM A3 RISO PRINT

“Pulling chains from the wet clay heart of the North, we achieved something beautiful that night: the promise of a new culture.”

Commemorate our Secular Exorcism of the North of England with this two-colour A3 Risograph print. No two are exactly the same due to the unique process of Risograph printing.

A Secular Exorcism of the North of England was an evening of noise, drone, ritual and performance held on Saturday 11th October 2025 at Hulme Community Garden Centre as part of The World Transformed festival.

The performance featured: Tessa Pike (saxophone), George Francis Lee (harmonium, guitar, vocals, pre-recorded music), Connor Seed (performance, spoken word, film), Pete Mercer (spoken word) and Phoebe Verity (concept support).

1. How do I pitch?

We have a full pitching guide up on our websh*te. Please do give that a read so neither of us are disappointed. Don’t send us a DM on here because we’ll probably lose track of it. We’re only human.

2. How much do we pay?

Not as much as we’d like. £50 for a piece over 500 words, £25 for under. We are an anti-profit affair and our team work voluntarily so we can pay our contributors, we’re always looking to up our fees as high as we can make them, because writers and artists deserve a fair wage. We can cover expenses, event tickets and travel as negotiated, too.

3. Can I write about Manchester?

Absolutely not. Don’t you know who you’re dealing with.

“You can create that Roma space, not just by the language, but also by dance, by the way you make food, the way you serve food, the way you eat, the way you conversate, the way you sit, the way you stand, the way you keep eye contact. We’ve got lots of ways, the Romani ways, and there is a word for that, it’s Romanipe. And when you do these ways, that’s what constitutes the Roma nation.”

STAT PRESENTED: A SECULAR EXORCISM OF THE NORTH OF ENGLAND

Back in June, beside the Face of Wigan, we hatched an idea. An idea born of frustration with our region’s cultural stagnation. We were to exorcise the North of its cultural demons, freeing ourselves from the shackles of industrial fe**sh, regurgitation and pastiche.

Over the months that followed our exorcism would be built through original film and music, as gritty and passionate as the region we wished to represent.

On Saturday, pulling muddy chains from the wet clay heart of the North, we achieved something beautiful: the promise of a new culture.

Gone wild, the unkempt land of former industry is brimming with green potential — Jessie Jones spends time at Rimrose Valley Country Park in Sefton.

“It’s because these edges are such a ready meeting point that they’re a vital, but often ignored, part of the conversation about conservation, rewilding, and how we coexist with other species. Those in the social housing that border Rimrose are already doing it, meeting each other on a green border with mutuality.”
