Happy New Year from a snowy Shetland!
We’ve had a lot of snow over the past few days, I always think it makes everything look so pretty and I love the light that accompanies it. I still get excited when it snows, I think it stems back to possibly getting a day off school!
Thanks for all your orders over the festive period, they have all bern packed up and hopefully will be picked up tomorrow.
It has been great to have some much needed time off over the festive period, I’m looking forward to seeing what this year brings!

I can’t believe a week ago I was at the first day of ! I has been a busy and exhausting couple of weeks, so although it’s back to the Shetland weather it was nice to get a warm welcome from the sheep yesterday!
It really was a lovely event, as others have said there was a really nice atmosphere and something special about it I can’t put my finger on. Thank you so much to the organisers and for all your hard work to put together such an amazing festival.
I took very few photos (I always forget!) but had to get one of inside my new favourite cafe and the amazing brioche bun with orange filling at where the event was held - if only I could nip back again for another!
Thanks to everyone who came to the stand for a chat and to buy yarn, to everyone who came to my class in Fair Isle knitting on a Sunday and huge thanks to Matt who came with me, did all the driving, carrying and lifting covered the stand when I was teaching (having had a crash course in yarn!)
Super also to catch up with (and to meet for the first time) and lots of others!
I’m going to take a few days to recover so I’m working through emails and messages slowly so will get back to you soon if you’re waiting for a reply and will get orders out early this next week 🧶🧶🧶

I’m looking forward to exhibiting at this weekend with Langsoond yarn; it sounds as if it’s going to be a great event. There are still some tickets too if you haven’t managed to get any. I’ve had a couple of unexpected days in Aberdeen as the winds are picking up so I got the ferry from. Shetland on Tuesday night instead. I’ve been working out of coffee shops and the hotel room! I can highly recommend for coffee and food 😊

I’m busy getting ready for the Clickimin craft fair in Lerwick this weekend, last week the weather was nice enough that I could do an indigo dyeing session. The sheep always wonder what’s going on and if there might be any food available!
I will have these indigo dyed yarns and lots of other yarn and patterns at the craft fair, the opening times are:
Friday 7th November 6.30pm - 9pm
Saturday 8th November 10am - 6pm
Sunday 9th November 11am - 5pm

It’s always a very enjoyable weekend, I’m looking to catching up with everyone and making a purchase or two!

I can’t believe it’s two weeks since I opened the Langsoond yarn shop with extended hours for Shetland Wool Week. Thank you to everyone who came along, it was so lovely to see you all!
It was an extremely busy week as usual and always takes a bit of time to recover and get back to normal! Over the past few days I have been catching up with jobs including on the Croft, we’ve got a lot of the tatties, onions and leeks up and they will be stored for the winter months. Clearing up after the storm last weekend included gathering all the kale and cabbage plants that blew out the ground but the sheep got to enjoy them.
The shop is closed now for the winter months, however if you would like to visit get in touch and I can see if there’s a time that can suit us both for an appointment.
I’m slowly adding things back on the website but will be having a bit of a holiday for the next two weeks so any orders will be sent after I get back to my desk. Anyone who has visited the shop will probably have met Kate the dog from next door, I think she’s missing everyone!

🌻Summer Holidays🌻

I am having a break for the summer holidays and will be away until Monday 28th July; the website is undergoing maintenance during the holidays and orders will resume after I get back.

The shop in Burra will be open during this time and you will be looked after by Casey so you can still buy yarn etc in person. The opening hours are Tuesdays and Fridays 11am-3pm and Saturdays 12pm-3pm. Sorry we can’t accommodate appointments outwith these times for the next two weeks.

I will reply to emails and messages after the 28th July. Hope you’re all having a lovely summer!

It’s a beautiful day here in Shetland, the door to the yarn shop is open and we will be here until 3 today selling Langsoond yarn, patterns, books and local arts and crafts.
We are also adding new colours to the website as we get them labelled at the moment rather than doing shop updates to make sure the shop is stocked up.
In other news, we are delighted that are now able to sell to the EU and Northern Ireland again 🧶🧶🧶

The Langsoond Yarn shop is now open for the summer season! We will be open Tuesdays and Fridays 11am - 3pm until Shetland Wool Week at the end of September or can open by appointment if we are here. The shop is attached to the house but has its own entrance, here you will find a range of yarn from locally reared sheep including our own, in a range of undyed and naturally dyed shades (the dyeing is done on the premises). We are located in Burra, about 10 miles from Lerwick you can find directions on the “visit” tab of the website. We also stock locally made crafts, knitting patterns and knitting kits. Hope to see you soon!

It was an honour to be interviewed last year for a 2 part programme exploring fashion in Scotland since the 1960s, it features many familiar faces like Lula, Alan Cu***ng, Charlene Spiteri and is hosted by the fabulous Kirsty Wark so I'm in very good company!
You can see the first part tonight at 9pm on BBC Scotland or you can watch both episodes on iPlayer now. I feature very briefly in the first episode where I mention the shop the used to be in Lerwick that sold the winkle pickers, I think a few locals will remember then, I had two pairs! You can see me with the sheep and speaking a bit about knitting in the second episode.
