As we come together to commemorate Armistice Day, I am reminded of my days as a Birmingham journalist.

Back in 2018, I had the honour of writing a series of supplements to mark the centenary of the First World War, as a feature writer for the Birmingham Mail, Birmingham Post, and Sunday Mercury.

The series highlighted stories of Birmingham soldiers - those who returned, those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom - their families, and the legacies they left behind.

There's one story, from that series, that I would like to share with you today.

Drawn from my experience of seeing the WWI battlefields with my own eyes, it's entitled "A Sobering Journey".

It's an experience that remains with me to this day.
