We have recently been asked whether we are still flying as we don’t post very often any more. The simple answer is yes - more so than ever and are involved in some very exciting projects. With other commitments we simply dont have time to be content creators as well! We have our GVC qualification and are fully insured to fly larger drones in built up areas.

Have you checked your roof lately?! We are on standby to identify those difficult to reach areas.”, once Eowyn has calmed down of course!

The little boy from Tamworth who made it to London’s West End…not just talking about awesome magician Jamie Allan but also myself (Chris, owner of Pesky Seagull) whose drone footage will be used for the coming months at for Jamie’s show, Amaze Live. Watching the show last night proves dreams can come true if you believe!

We are currently at Picadilly Circus watching our “Amaze-ing” drone footage in a West End Show, including this opening scene! For the record my pivotal moment is being told that I would never get a drone licence and that drones should be banned by a family member. The rest is history!

I never thought a visit to Maplins to buy a cable for my home CCTV system would have such an impact on my life! I was leaving the shop when the dji display had grabbed my attention. I had previously tried flying the cheap helicopters and even a toy drone with little success, but a basic video clip I had recently seen online of a friends family being filmed from a drone had already got me curious but never really thought anything more of it. It took me about 30 minutes of self debate to make the most random and expensive whim purchase of my life and have never looked back since!
Rushing home to unbox it, eager to see what it could do, my first flight was a complete disaster, crashing into my kitchen door, breaking a propellor, not knowing how to shut the engines off, never mind the grief I got for it!! Therefore, before my second flight I thought it may be wise to read the instructions a little and take it to an open field! (I still have this video, it’s pretty hilarious watching back now as I attempted to comprehend the controls)
I always had an interest in videography and had filmed a few weddings for friends and family over 20 years ago using my trusty old camcorder but didn’t pursue this as my career in aviation took off, which is always funny when people tell me that they hope I don’t hang around airports as I have been doing just that, daily for 25 years!
Suddenly I had a new hobby, one that combined flying, gadgets, making videos etc! Shortly after, I asked the organiser of a local family obstacle event myself and the family were participating in if I could bring my drone along and he agreed. At this point I realised the potential of this technology and have been practising ever since. I was even using it with engines off as an handheld action camera for the early videos to complement the air stuff. (my equipment has since grown!)
Whilst I was recently flying along the golden beaches of the sunny Algarve, it was soon discovered that Seagulls are not the friendliest of creatures that nature has to offer. It was quite a scary experience that such an expensive piece of equipment could be so easily knocked out the sky by a dive-bombing gull, the pesky things! Luckily with a bit of skill I managed to outsmart them with my manoeuvres but from this frightening experience the name “Pesky Seagull” was conceived. Despite toying with alternatives, more conventional names, such as “Next Level Imagery,” Pesky Seagull was the one that I kept coming back to. It had meaning behind it along side the sense of quirky fun.
Talking of the next level, I have recently completed my PFCO Licence from the CAA following professional training from my friends at Aerial Motion Pictures (ICARUS) enabling me to perform commercial work, therefore Pesky Seagull is officially now a registered company which believe it or not is regulated in a similar way to a small airline effectively meaning a lot more responsibility and paperwork than the hobbiest flyer!
I can safely say that despite early near misses, no seagulls were injured in the forming of this venture.
A website is still in the development stages, however we can be contacted via our page or email, [email protected] to discuss any future project.
