Dave Robertson MP ( ) and many other - not all - Labour MPs voted against the Motion last night calling on the Government "not to break its manifesto commitment that it would not increase National Insurance, the basic, higher or additional rates of Income Tax or VAT."

The full wording of the Motion was:
THAT this House calls on the Government to control public expenditure in order to keep the promise made by the Chancellor of the exchequer at the Confederation of British Industry conference on 25 November 2024 that, after the last Budget, the Government would not raise taxes; and further calls on the Government not to break its manifesto commitment that it would not increase National Insurance, the basic, higher or additional rates of Income Tax or VAT.

The Budget is in a couple of weeks……..

To add to the nervousness of MPs, this would be the result if an election were called now and there were massive tactical voting against which would reduce their 445 seats to 367.
This would still give Reform an overall majority.
However, Labour would still be reduced to 117 MPs, but up from 73.

I can understand why MPs are feeling anxious about 's leadership.

The current state of the parties say that there is a 96% chance that the MP for won't hold his seat. This is being repeated up and down the country. (Source: Electoral Calculus)

After torrential rain, the sun peeped out just before sunset and I just had to catch it on camera as it cast a golden glow over the countryside.

Someone asked me last night why I thought meeting the King in Lichfield was so special given that I had met him many times before.

It was because on all the previous occasions, he sort of “had to meet” me at formal occasions when I was an MP.

The King must have met 100,000s of his subjects over the years.

What was lovely this time was that I was standing with the rest of the crowd, behind a barrier, and he spotted me across the road while getting into his car. It was a lovely gesture when he pointed at me in recognition and came across to say hello.

The only problem was that - for once - I was tongue tied!
