Yellowbelly Records

Yellowbelly Records Yellowbelly Records is a Lincolnshire-based record label. This was the catalyst of conversation regarding the decline and rise of physical media in music.

The story so far…

One crisp winter night, two Lincolnshire musicians found themselves in a dinky old pub, listening to an extraordinary local artist. Enthused by their desire to hear more, they found that the artist had a self-produced CD, which they immediately purchased. Seeing the popularity of this CD and the joy it brought to all, they knew there and then that there needed to be more. Thus c

ame the birth of Yellowbelly Records. Lincolnshire has always had a great variety of talented musicians, but, in this digital age, it is more difficult than ever to support local artists. This is what we are setting out to rectify; riding the resurgence of physical media to support artists across the county. Yellowbelly Records is working with local artists to give them opportunities to produce physical media and merchandise for their musical careers and aspirations, creating a catalogue of releases across a variety of artists that Lincolnshire can be proud of. To help enable artists to invest into their releases, we are putting on a variety of showcases to demonstrate the talent in Lincolnshire’s music scene. The funds raised from these events will be going straight back into helping artists fund physical releases of their music, supported by a team of dedicated physical media enthusiasts. We are also partnering with talent across Lincolnshire’s art scene, including fine artists, photographers and videographers, graphic designers and stage engineers, to bring out the best Lincolnshire has to offer.

We are delighted to announce that our featured poet for Let The Imp Out #15 is none other than Ross McGivern! 😄

Ross is a poet harvested from the deep, fertile flatlands of South Lincolnshire, who also dabbles in painting and music.

His work has appeared in two D.I.Y chapbooks: The Featherstone Readings (2017) and Interpret (2018) (inspired by a collaboration with the Norwich based artist Charlie James). His work has also appeared in The Fallow Page (2020) published by Maplestreet Press.

On top of this, his work has appeared in previous editions of Impspired, The Plastic Brain Presents Podcast, Lincolnshire Strange Delights, Hedgehog Press, Black Pear Press, Backcombed Magazine, BBC Radio Lincolnshire and Openings – the annual anthology of the Open University Poets Society.

In normal times, you’ll find him out in the wild, flitting between flatland poetry nights whilst balancing Pernod and sobriety.

We very much invite you to come and enjoy his set and, if you're interested, to sign up to perform a set of your own too! 😁

New album time!

Louth based group Moose Factory have debuted a rather stunning album, 24 tracks in length; completely filling each CD with as much variety as possible. It's hard to place them in a genre, the lads just burst with creativity in each track and it leads them to some fantastic places!

Pictured here is Ralph's dad, who happily accepted the delivery of discs. I'm sure you'll be seeing these very soon around Louth, including stock in Off The Beaten Tracks alongside many other Yellowbelly releases.

It's been fantastic working with this creative force, and we look forward to their love debut later this year!

This is why dogs don't make good models.

This here pupper was meant to tell you that Harry Medium has once again needed another print run of his fabulous album, Start To Burn.

He would much rather you spend money on some biscuits for him, but he will compromise if you buy a copy of Start To Burn off his dad, then he can use that money to buy some biscuits.

A fair deal, right?

On Thursday, THIS THURSDAY, we very proudly have stand-up poet, reluctant bear and attempted vegan Dan Webber gracing the LET THE IMP OUT stage!

Wait... no... that's wrong... he doesn't do labels... - his absolutely sensational debut collection stripped away labels of life, love, the arts and the LGBTQ+ community in a fast-paced, honest and hilarious manner! Under the constant pressure of marketing people, to decide whether he was a comic or poet, Dan navigated through the confusing world of definitions.

Now nearly ten years on, Dan has appeared at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Reading Fringe Festival and as part of the 25th Birthday Celebrations for Leicester Comedy Festival. His first collection ‘Genre Fluid’ was published by Big White Shed in June 2019, a show of the same name was named Best Solo Show at Morecambe Digital Fringe in August 2020.

His commissions include ‘The Derby Witness’ a poetry and street art project for Derby Feste, ‘Whispers From The Woods’, a poetry and nature trail produced with Arts Melbourne for The National Forest, ‘15st 9lbs at time of writing’ for SHOUT Festival, Birmingham, ‘Genre Fluid: Quarantine Edition’ for Coventry Pride, and ‘322 Ways of Escape’ as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations for The Brewhouse Arts Centre, Burton-upon-Trent.

He is massively talented and wonderfully wonderful - and he will be travelling from Derby to little ol' Lincoln - so please do, come down to Vice & Co THIS THURSDAY, and give him the warm welcome he deserves!

*there are still some sets left up for grabs too, so if you want to grab one, do let us know!

Sincerely Yours,

The Imp
