📡 When networks wobble, your livestream shouldn’t.

There’s been widespread outages today – both Starlink and some UK mobile networks are patchy.

We’re not anything ourselves today, but moments like this are a reminder: connectivity is critical to the success of a live event.

That’s why we don’t rely on a single connection. Our standard setup uses bonded connectivity – combining:
• Broadband/fibre (where available)
• 4G/5G SIMs (non-steered)
• Starlink or KA-SAT satellite uplinks
• And failover routing via

We recently completed a new visitor and contractor induction film for a petrochemical site in the north east — helping the client replace their paper-based safety briefing with a clear, visual, and time-saving solution.

Working closely with their HSE team, we:
• Developed the script and visual plan from their existing materials
• Filmed across the site
• Created motion graphics to reinforce key messages
• Supplied a professional voiceover for clarity and consistency

The result? A self-contained induction film that’s shown at reception and shared with contractors in advance — improving understanding, reducing repetition, and freeing up staff time.

Really enjoyed working on this year’s General Election, feeding video from South West Norfolk’s count declaration to Good Morning Britain.

Having previously worked as a runner in the 2001 and 2005 General Elections, whilst I was at college and university, it was great to be back in the count hall.

Technology has certainly moved on. In 2001 and 2005, my task was to drive taped recordings of the declarations to a central site, where the tapes were replayed from a satellite uplink OB vehicle, to the studio. I recall 2005 was at a site in Leicester and the footage had to be driven to Long Eaton to another count location where the truck was located.

This morning, I was able to connect to the studio gallery directly with my LiveU unit and transmit footage with just over a 1 second delay, meaning that the declaration could be included live in the programme.

As June draws to a close, what a varied month it’s been.

Started the month doing live RF camera for a product launch for an agricultural supplier in Nottinghamshire.

Followed by a week-long corporate conference in Telford as a video technician.

Then, vMix operator/video tech for an online auction in Cambridgeshire.

Finally, this week, working in London as a racks technician for a major telco supplier, with a TV studio ‘style’ corporate event, featuring watch parties and multi-site links.

I really enjoy playing a small part in productions to make the whole show come together.

Looking forward to next week, providing live uplink via LiveU for UK broadcaster for election coverage.

Every week is different and that’s the great think about my job.
