The festive season is a time for giving, but unfortunately, it’s also a time when fraudsters can take advantage of our goodwill.

Doorstep scams often increase around Christmas, as criminals might pose as charity collectors, delivery agents, or tradespeople offering urgent repairs.

These scams can lead to financial loss and emotional distress. Awareness is the best defence, knowing the signs can help you and your loved ones stay safe.

Fraudsters rely on pressure and persuasion. They may claim to be from a reputable organisation, offering seemingly deals or insisting on immediate payment for a service.

Remember: genuine charities and companies will never mind if you take time to check their credentials. By staying alert and sharing advice with friends, family, and neighbours, we can make our communities safer this Christmas.

Key Things to Watch Out For:
Be cautious of anyone who turns up unexpectedly offering services or collecting donations.
Scammers often create urgency, don’t feel rushed into making decisions.
Always ask for official identification and verify it.
Quick or cheap repairs or exclusive deals are common scam tactics.
If you are contacted unsolicited at home, don’t open the door and report your concerns.

If you experience doorstep callers offering to do work on your home say No and please report it or call 101. You can get advice by calling 0808 223 1133.
