MEET THE TEAM - KEITH BALLINGER

Technical Director for Witham Radio, Keith Ballinger, might be recognizable as the co-host for Siren Radio’s Sunday Lunch Show. 🎙️

As well as participating in the programs, Keith’s role in Witham Radio involves getting the FM transmitter running when the station goes “on air”. 📻

As well as providing music for the community, Keith would like to see the inclusion of “spoken word” programming.

This includes stories and poetry written by local authors, local news analysis, interviews with local personalities, and discussions on ethnic and cultural diversity so Witham Radio “can distinguish itself from being just another music station.” ✨

MEET THE TEAM - KARA JOUBERT

is one of Witham Radio’s communications officers and is a second-year journalism student at the University of Lincoln.

Her first radio experience was in 2023, which is when she met Alex Lewczuk. Since then, she has enjoyed conducting location reports and interviews for online and broadcast. 📻

Kara doesn’t have a favorite interview (rather, she can’t pick one!), although she loves speaking with creatives, authors, and filmmakers. ✨🎬

Her hope for Witham Radio is that people realise its potential as a fantastic asset to the Lincoln community!

Gardner - Community Director

I retired from nursing 7 years ago but been involved with many charity organisations over 35 years . I have been involved with Community Radio since I retired.

Kathy who has been your favourite interviewee?
My favourite interviewee has to be a very respected and well liked DJ in the soul world, Steve Woomble. I learned many things from him that surprised and delighted many listeners including myself.

What has been your most enjoyable radio moment?
One of my most enjoyable Radio moments was hearing from people that tuned in to my show every week, and said it was the highlight of their week.

So why should people get involved with Witham Radio and what advice would you give them?
Find the inner Radio personality you've always known was there , use it to help develop your own strengths and help other people to do the same.
My vision for Witham Radio is to achieve a greater sense of bringing people and communities together.
Also to provide the best Radio shows all chosen by us and be the local beacon of light to shine on our local communities and people.

MEET THE TEAM
David Harding-Price Secretary of Witham Radio

David started his community radio career back in 1982 on hospital radio with a
fifteen-minute weekly slot. Since then, he has volunteered with several community
radio station, here in the UK and abroad. He has presented just short of three
thousand shows.
He has been involved with community groups and charities since his school days in
the 1970s. Currently he is leading Witham Radio’s journey to gaining its FM licence.

David who has been your favourite interviewee?
It is hard one, having interviewed hundreds of people, a couple of memorable ones
Don Estelle in a Woolworth’s stockroom and John Cleese in a graveyard. Most
honoured was Sir Patrick Moore who called in me ahead of the “professionals”
because I was hospital radio and on my lunch break.

What was your most enjoyable radio moment?
There have been many but every time some-one comes in worried that they will be
awful and cannot do it and then twenty minutes later leaving saying “when can I do
this again?”
What words would you use to encourage people to volunteer on Witham Radio?
Apart from the fun element, what more entertainment can you have with a plastic
tube with a metal ball grill on it.

What do you hope Witham Radio achieves?
My vision is for Witham Radio to serve the wider community of Lincoln and provide
the next generation of broadcasters with a platform to start their broadcasting
journey on.

MEET THE TEAM
Alex Lewczuk- Chair of Witham Radio

Alex is the founder of both Siren Radio & Southside Broadcasting and formerly programme leader for the BA (Hons) Communications and Public Relations programmes at the University of Lincoln. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy , qualified LAMDA tutor and holds degrees in Chemistry, Biology and Film & Television Studies from the University of London. He is now Chair of Witham Radio.

Alex, who has your favourite ever interviewee been?
Among the thousands of interviewees he has featured over the years Academy award winning actress ( & Hollywood legend ) Shirley Jones and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair are in the top ten.

What words would you use to encourage people to volunteer on a radio station?
Have faith in the future and it will have faith in you is his mantra.

What do you hope Witham Radio achieves?
I hope that the Witham Radio project fulfils its commitment established in the Broadcasting Act of 1990 of bringing new multi-generational talent to the audio landscape.
