Planning my first combo spin

I received these three braids as Christmas gifts, and they definitely belong together! The middle is from and the outer two from . They’re a mix of fibers but mostly merino with some superwash merino and cashmere thrown in. Plan is for a fi*****ng weight 3-ply so that I have greater yardage and flexibility in what to do with the yarn once it’s done!

Lucia Pullover

This sweater was a labor of love but I’m so pleased with the result! I started it back in February 2023 as a test knitter, but once I finished the yoke and sleeve it was put on hold for a while. I picked it up sporadically but finally put in the effort to get it finished in January and I’m so glad I did.

There were no “easy” rows, each row required attention due to the twisted stitches. The cable pattern is also fairly complex so I wasn’t able to memorize it, meaning I had the charts out for the whole time. All in all it was well worth the effort and it makes such a cozy sweater now that it’s done!

Lauder Vest Test 🩶

Making progress on my latest testknit, this time for .creabea! It’s a lovely pattern and I’m excited to have my first handknit vest.

I’m getting close to needing a new ball of yarn, so this morning I finished spinning the rest of the singles, and will ply tomorrow. Fibre is Appledore Top from . It’s certainly a wooly wool but will work well for a garment that’s always meant to be worn with a layer underneath.

Handspun cowl 💜

I finished this cowl for my mom while I was home for Christmas. It’s alpaca, Shetland wool, and some miscellaneous purple wool for a bit of color. The special thing about it is that the alpaca is hand processed from alpaca that she bought for me from a friend shortly after I started spinning, so she actually met the alpaca that it came from!

It should be nice for wearing while doing chores, as it doesn’t have ends to drag in the dirt like a scarf would. It was fun to see how the bits of purple came through, though I think in future I would actually add more purple.

Another souvenir knit, this time for Cameron

In the past we’d always bought sock yarn if we were able to visit places with yarn shops. However, I was building up a large stash of yarn with few socks to show for it… so when we went to in Lisbon this October, Cameron saw this cowl on display and asked for one just like it! It was a super quick knit with plenty of yarn leftover for a hat in the future, and he’s actually getting to use it within a couple months of the trip.

Finally sharing this shawl on the grid - it was tricky to get good pictures of this project!

This is the Gibbie Shawl, pattern and yarn both from . It’s knit in 1ply cobweb yarn.

It was both easier and harder than expected - while it looks very complex, the lace wasn’t actually any more difficult to knit than lace with bigger yarns. However it did take quite a long time to get through each row, especially at the beginning.

Overall I’m glad I made it and it’s definitely one of those peak knitting projects that I can be proud to say I completed!

A swatch which has made me really want to get going on this project!

This is Appledore Top in colour Hoary Morning from . It’s Devon Closewool, Romney, and Exmoor Blueface. Swipe to see the top in original form - I ran it through my drum carder once to get some air in the fibre and to blend the colours a bit more, then spun it long draw and 2ply. It isn’t next to skin soft for me but should make a lovely vest/slipover. Now I just need to spin the rest!

Progress on my Zipper Sweater Light - this project has absolutely flown by so far which is a nice change for me! All the stockinette in the round has made it fairly mindless and I only have the sleeves and zipper left to do. Can’t wait to wear the finished object!

My first finished skein for TdF! This is a lovely 90/10 Moorit Shetland and Scottish Cashmere blend that I picked up from at the Scottish Wool Producers Showcase.

I love the color and it was a lovely spinning experience. I spun it long draw. It’s 240m and 100g which is roughly a DK weight, so should be perfect for the Gro Hat by !
