Director / Producer - Brian Ambrose
As we countdown to the release of our single on 10th December, today we look at the two people behind this wonderful project.
Brian grew up in Grove Street in Toxteth and was a late starter when it comes to playing drums. At sixteen, he and his cousin received free drum lessons at The Picket, after just six lessons Brian was hooked and has been playing drums ever since.
Brian purchased his first drum kit for just £30 when he was just seventeen, but he had to put the snare on two stools. His first gig was at The Nook in Chinatown, a band of old school mates, some of whom are still in the band today and called themselves ‘Indigo Stone’, with no PA and only one amp between two people and no bass player.
By the time Brian was twenty, he was in a band called ‘Walkabout’ who had a great following around the pubs and clubs of Liverpool in the early 90s. The Indigos then reformed to play original music which lasted a couple of years, the closest they came to a hit single was when "Major Blues" was placed in a museum exhibition.
In 1999 members of Indigo Stone and Walkabout joined together and The Mersey Beatles were formed, Brian plays Ringo in the band and has played many sold out shows and tours around the world whilst also resident at The Cavern for over a decade, where they actually performed more times than The Beatles themselves. In May 2018 they marked their 100th show in the USA with hopefully many more to follow. In 2019, Brian was asked by record producer Ron Dante (also singer for The Archies/ Cufflinks) to be his drummer for a couple of shows in the USA.
During lockdown Brian has set up a small recording studio ‘Ambrose Abbey Productions’ at his home in Aigburth, which in doing so, has given many hours of his free time, recording lots of the artists’ tracks for this charity single...Brian has edited and mixed the entire track and video himself, with the video being shown just a few days after the single which is due for release on 10th December.
Band Aid Liverpool and all the management at Shelter are extremely grateful for all the tireless hard work Brian has undertaken and we all wish him and his family a great Christmas.
