Keir Starmer has officially resigned in his position as Prime Minister… but what happens next?

Over the last couple of months, a clear path has been made for Andy Burnham to take his place as both PM and leader of the Labour Party.

The Liverpool born MP won the by-election in Makerfield last month, after serving 9 years as Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Having stayed out of parliamentary politics since 2017, he has distanced himself from the party politics surrounding both Keir Starmer and Jeremy Corbyn.

Many have faith in the former Mayor to set things straight following his success running the northern region.

Yet, many are critical of his positions regarding divisive topics, such as the genocide in Gaza (which he is yet to recognise), and going as far as backing Shabana Mahmood’s immigration plan which has been described as “mimicking Trump’s ICE detention” by The Guardian.

Overall, this political turbulence is a damning sign for the state of democracy in the UK.

With the last 5 Prime Ministers resigning before sitting a full term, many believe the political system is broken.

Yet, is Burnham charismatic and popular enough to keep things together?

As of right now, it seems that we may have to wait until September to see who will be taking Starmer’s place.

However, it is extremely likely Burnham will be handed the position of Prime Minister given there are no serious contesters as of yet.

UKIP leader Nick Tenconi took to the streets of Liverpool today for his ‘Walk with Jesus Rally’ - where around 30-40 estimated UKIP supporters congregated at the city’s Metropolitan Cathedral.

There was a significant police presence and at least 1500 counter-protestors in attendance to block the procession.

The Diocese of Liverpool released a statement earlier this month when the march was announced opposing the use of their site, quoted saying: “We will continue to stand firm against hatred, prejudice, racism and bigotry in all their forms, confident that these forces will not define who we are as a society.”

In a recent move - the motives of which are currently uncertain - TikTok has prohibited the use of the trans and gay pride flags in their comment sections.

With the current global movement against trans identifying people this sparks a lot of questions about censorship.

But this is nothing new for TikTok - for the last 6 or so years of its supremacy in the social media world, this kind of censorship of LGBTQIA+ individuals has been reported many times - from limiting trans and q***r creators, to restricting hashtags relating to the q***r community.

Is it time to rid ourselves of this brain-cell-destroying app? If there are no improvements over their protections of the LGBT community, it might just be the time.

TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS !!!

We spoke to on Saturday at , asking what the Green Party’s prospects in Merseyside are over the next few years before the 2029 election takes place.

Given Liverpool’s historical left-wing allegiance, could the Green’s take advantage of a declining Labour voter base in the area?
