36 years to the day since the Ally Pally gig. We didn’t know it at the time but it was to be the last time seeing the band with Hugh Cornwell in the line up.
I was there along with our Mike and our mate Paul. The gig itself was nothing special, they were going through the motions and the addition of the brass section didn’t really enhance the sound or dynamics.
The Stranglers are still touring with original bass player JJ Burnel along with Baz Warne on guitar and vocal duties now into his 26th year as a Strangler. Jim Mc on drums and Toby Hounsham on keys making the band complete, and a joy to see live. Hugh is still playing and releasing music as well.
Opinions on both split fans and are often the subject on stranglers fan group pages.
11th August is not a Stranglers fan’s favourite date in the calendar but at least we still have the wonderful legacy of great songs and that’s what matters.
