*PRESS RELEASE:*
*LIVERPOOL’S YOUNGEST AUTHORS MEET THE LORD MAYOR IN HONOUR OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2025*
As the United Kingdom draws to the close of Black History Month, the annual October celebration dedicated to recognising the histories, achievements, and contributions of Black people/ leaders across the UK, Liverpool’s and UK’s youngest and most prolific family of authors, Destiny, Caleb and Latoya Likambi, were graciously received at Liverpool Town Hall by the city’s First Citizen, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Barbara Murray.
*The theme for this year’s Black History Month 2025 is “Standing Firm in Power and Pride”,* a powerful call to celebrate resilience, leadership, and the continuing work of empowerment within Black communities and beyond. The Likambi siblings’ visit embodied this spirit, showcasing how young authors from Black and Ethnic Minority backgrounds are not only shaping culture, literacy, and aspiration across Liverpool and beyond, but also paving the way for the next generation of visionary leaders who dare to write, lead, and inspire with purpose and grace.
During the visit, Councillor Murray congratulated Destiny (aged 10), Caleb (aged 15), and Latoya (aged 19) on their extraordinary achievements (together authoring 22 books) and discussed their books, creative aims, and plans for future publications. The Lord Mayor praised their dedication to nurturing young readers and writers and invited them to support the city’s commitment to enabling every young person to fulfil their maximum potential. The young authors were also thrilled to offer some of their books as a special gift to the Lord Mayor, in recognition of her inspiring leadership and ongoing commitment to literacy and youth empowerment.
Councillor Murray reiterated her long-standing vision to promote literacy across Liverpool: to champion lifelong learning, widen access to books and creative opportunities, and ensure children and young people from all backgrounds have the encouragement and resources to succeed. The meeting underpinned a shared belief that reading and storytelling are powerful tools for empowerment, confidence, and community development and cohesion.
The visit was organised by Likambi Global Publishing and Voice of Nations and follows previous civic engagements by the siblings, who regularly speak at schools, libraries, conferences, and international events, donate books, and host the Creative Genius Conference and conferences — all aimed at inspiring the next generation to develop a love for reading, writing, and to unleash their creative genius and dream without limits.
