The Book Scaries are here to celebrate Halloween for the whole of October!

In the weeks leading up to Halloween, The Book Scaries will feature a spooky theme 👻

Witches, ghouls, and ghosts at night,
Magic, murder, and haunted sites.

All kinds of monsters creeping about,
Whispering tales too secret to shout.

And in this way, we fairies celebrate
Each day in October, as Halloween we await.

What is The Book Scaries?

Every year, The Book Fairies go a little… other-worldly, choosing to hide some spooky reads to match the season.

We will be doing a variety of things, including posting a book a day in our stories, each centred around a particular theme, with book drops in their cities’ most peculiar places.

Why not join in?

If you have some spooky books, or some creepy locations at which to hide books, why not hide them and use on your post?

Each week, we will post a collection of location ideas for spooky book drops - so look out for those! We will also be asking for your input through Instagram stories and post comments 🎃

What is Book Fairy Treasure?

It's a worldwide attempt at a treasure hunt for book lovers. Have a look at all the activity from the last five years by clicking the hashtag ! 👑

How can you get involved?

Save up some books for book drops for Book Fairy Treasure weekend (17 - 19 September) and add a little extra magic. This includes Monday, which is TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY! Maybe a pirate symbol, or a gold nugget, or simply post clues online so that people can try to find your treasure! You can even arrange a fun treasure hunt in your local neighbourhood 🗝

Naturally, many fairies will be hiding pirate themed books for this event, but honestly - it can be done with ANY books! You can share clues, maps and more to get your neighbourhood hunting for the books :) PLEASE let us know what you're planning by sharing pics using the hashtag!

For the final day of and we are celebrating secondhand books! Let's show the world that a HUGE part of the enjoyment of reading is sharing - sharing books you've read and want to recommend. If you haven't enjoyed a book, that's ok too - there will be someone out there who's thrilled to find it beautifully wrapped up waiting for them!

So what are you waiting for? Start gathering a few books that you've read and are happy to share, and save them for Sunday 31st July...
