A DIAMOND-SET Welsh gold necklace donated by Clogau will headline a special fundraising raffle marking a Welsh cancer research charity's 60th birthday.

The award-winning jewellery brand has gifted the necklace to Cancer Research Wales | Ymchwil Canser Cymru as the grand prize in its inaugural 60 Anniversary Diamond Raffle, raising funds for research, diagnosis and treatment projects across the country.

The prize was unveiled by Cancer Research Wales ambassador and Miss United Kingdom Millie-Mae Adams at the award-winning company’s Cardiff store, where she received it on behalf of the charity.

“As a Welsh business with deep roots in our communities, we recognise the impact cancer has on families across the country and the importance of investing in research that can save and improve lives. We hope this beautiful Welsh gold necklace will help generate significant support for the raffle and encourage people to get behind the charity's vital work.”

HUNDREDS of young people were given a window into their future careers as Coleg Cambria brought together some of the region's biggest employers for successful Careers and Progression events.

Held at the college's Yale Wrexham and Deeside sites, the packed sessions brought together around 500 learners aged 16–18 with a wide range of public and private sector organisations.

The sessions gave students the opportunity to speak directly with employers, explore future career pathways, and gain insight into apprenticeships, work experience, training and employment opportunities available across the region.

Among the organisations taking part were Iceland Foods, Denbighshire County Council, Wrexham County Borough Council, Flintshire County Council, Flintshire Local Voluntary Council, Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council, Derwen Joinery Limited, HM Prison and Probation Service, North Wales Police, Prysmian, Haven, the British Army and the RAF.

Gari Thomas, Employer Engagement Manager at Coleg Cambria, said: “These events are hugely important because they give learners the chance to engage directly and start thinking seriously about their future careers and progression routes.

“It was wonderful to see so many private and public sector employers giving their time to speak with learners, answer questions and share their experiences across such a wide variety of professions.”

He added: “We want employers to see Coleg Cambria as an open and accessible partner. There are so many ways to engage with our learners, whether through careers events, industry talks, work experience, placements, apprenticeships or recruitment support."

From primetime TV to sun-soaked hotspots - Party Hard Travel is gearing up for its biggest season yet after being confirmed as a sponsor of the new series of Love Island.

The fast-growing Surrey and London-based youth travel specialist has been unveiled as a sponsor of the hit ITV show's interactive segment, with viewers set to win prizes including £50,000 cash, an all-inclusive holiday to Mallorca with tickets to the series final, and the Party Hard ultimate event packages with VIP upgrades.

Nathan Cable, CEO and co-founder, says the partnership is a "huge moment" for the business.

"Love Island is watched by exactly the audience we exist for," he said.

"We first sponsored the competition back in the 2017 series and it's great to be back."

The company has enjoyed average year-on-year turnover growth of more than 100% over the last three years and is now aiming to increase annual bookings from 57,000 last year to as many as 86,000 in 2026.

That momentum has also brought wider recognition, with Party Hard Travel recently surging onto the prestigious Sunday Times 100 list of Britain's fastest-growing private companies – it was listed 35th in the country.

Nathan, who co-founded the business a decade ago, said: "To be included on that list is a real honour and reflects a sustained period of growth for us."

Town centres are getting a state-of-the-art digital makeover as a Welsh enterprise agency helps high streets stay visible and competitive in an increasingly online world.

SMART Busnes, delivered by Antur Cymru Enterprise, has created Digital Place Plans for the six towns it supports in Ceredigion, giving each one a detailed look at how it performs online.

The plans examine everything from promotion, coordination and marketing to social media presence, showing where they may be losing customers and what practical steps can be taken to improve.

Described as “a health check for the high street” the programme uses search data, footfall analytics, digital behaviour - coupled with experience, local knowledge and expertise - to assess how well a town is working, both online and on the ground.

Bronwen Raine, Managing Director of Newcastle Emlyn-based Antur Cymru, said the plans help turn strategy into practical action.

“Digital Place Plans help bridge the gap between strategy and delivery,” she said. “By taking a whole-place view, they support towns to make better use of existing assets, work more collaboratively, and build the confidence needed to make informed, long-term decisions that benefit local communities.”

Rather than focusing only on individual shops, each plan looks at the town as a whole. It considers online visibility, how visitors find and move through a place, gaps in digital infrastructure, and how well local organisations work together.

The aim is to show how small, coordinated improvements can create a bigger long-term impact than any one business could achieve alone.

CONGRATULATIONS! Aled Morris received a hero's welcome from students and staff after helping make television history as part of the first choir ever to win Britain's Got Talent (BGT).

Aled, a Llangollen farmer and Agricultural Engineering lecturer at Coleg Cambria Llysfasi campus, returned to work to cheers and applause after the Britain's Got Talent final, where The Hawkstone Farmers Choir beat drone light show act Celestial to take the crown.

The 34-strong choir, made up of farmers and agricultural workers from across the UK, captivated millions of viewers with emotional performances and a powerful message highlighting mental health and su***de prevention in the farming industry.

Formed in May 2025, the choir originally came together for a Hawkstone beer advertising campaign before evolving into a close-knit support network for those working in agriculture. More than 500 people applied to join the group, which includes 10 members from Wales.

For Aled, the journey began after his fiancée Sarah encouraged him to apply when he saw an advert looking for farmers who could sing.

"I can hold a tune, so I sent in a video of myself singing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau and was lucky enough to be accepted," he said.

"It was only when I pulled into the car park at Jeremy Clarkson's pub, The Farmer's Dog, that I realised what was actually happening.

"We were there to film an advert for Hawkstone beer. It was a controversial advert, but we had so much fun doing it. Jeremy has done so much for the farming community and was incredibly supportive throughout.

"We all stayed in touch afterwards through a WhatsApp group, and then our musical director suggested entering Britain's Got Talent. The rest is history."

A determined learner from Wrexham is proving that dedication, perseverance and the right support can turn ambition into a thriving career.

Olivia Kassab, a former pupil of Rhosnesni High School, has spent the last seven years progressing through multiple levels of study at Coleg Cambria and is now completing a Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship - a journey that began on an entry-level programme.

While still at school, Olivia enrolled on a BTEC in Construction and the Built Environment at the college’s Bersham Road site.

After successfully completing the qualification, she progressed to Level 3 in the same subject, further developing her knowledge of the sector and strengthening her ambitions to pursue a future in engineering.

Alongside her studies, Olivia secured an apprenticeship with Bingham Rawlings Partnership Ltd in Wrexham, a well-established civil and structural engineering consultancy delivering design services across domestic, commercial and public sector projects since the turn of the century.

Now working at the firm as an engineering technician, Olivia is a permanent member of the team and looking ahead to an exciting role in the industry.

“I’ve loved my time at Coleg Cambria,” she said. “I always wanted to go into this sector, and the college gave me the opportunity to start at entry level and work all the way up to a degree apprenticeship. With hard work and perseverance, you really can achieve your goals.”

Olivia’s journey has seen her complete a Higher National Certificate (HNC) before progressing onto the Civil Engineering degree apprenticeship pathway delivered at Bersham Road in partnership with Wrexham University.

The Trust has been hosting a series of ‘Meet the Volunteers’ drop-in sessions throughout this week, giving visitors the chance to speak directly with the volunteers and staff who help keep the much-loved heritage attraction thriving.
