MY LEGAL LIFE: Thanks to The Law Society Gazette for its profile of our client Mackenzie Jones Solicitors Rebekah Woods in its latest edition and online.

"I didn’t set out knowing I wanted to work in law. After studying history at the University of Liverpool, I wasn’t entirely sure where I saw my career. Like many graduates, I felt a bit lost, so I started applying for administration roles to gain experience and see where it led. I started working in the NHS, first in the payroll department and then in patient registration.

"It was during my time in patient registration that something clicked. I realised that the parts of my role I enjoyed most were problem-solving and advising. I remember thinking: how can I do more of this, but at a deeper level, with more technical knowledge? That thought is what first led me to consider a career in law."

Thanks to our friends at RadioToday for this one on a new era for DRIFT RADIO.

The station is marking its fifth anniversary with a major milestone as the community dance and electronic music station launches on DAB+ digital radio along the North Wales coast.

The move signals an exciting new chapter for the unique Rhyl-based station and means even more people can tune in and enjoy its eclectic mix of music and club culture.

Drift will continue streaming online, via its dedicated mobile app and through smart speakers by saying "Play Drift Radio" and with the addition of DAB+ makes it easier to discover and connect with the station "at home, in the car or on the move".

Drift began with a simple idea: to create a radio station that reflects the energy and creativity of the coast.

Since its launch, Drift has founded a new company with a dedicated management team and a loyal audience across coastal North Wales. Known for its specialist evening shows and popular live events Drift has become a platform for DJs, producers and fans of electronic music to share their passion.

"We're incredibly proud to be marking five years of Drift with our move onto DAB+," said Kevin Wright, one of the station's founders.

Insightful research is helping transform how students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are supported in higher education.

Rebecca Mountfield-Pawlett, PGCE programme lead at Coleg Cambria, has published findings that highlight both the challenges and the strengths of students with ADHD, and how practical teaching strategies can make academia more inclusive.

Rebecca, who also teaches Childhood Studies in partnership with Wrexham University and is currently studying for a doctorate in education with a focus on literacy, explained how the project grew from her own classroom experiences.

“I noticed a rise in students presenting with neurodiverse traits,” she said.

“Many had not declared or been diagnosed with ADHD, yet it was clear they were struggling with aspects of study and assessment. I wanted to see if what I was observing was reflected in wider student experience.”

Her research involved direct engagement with learners, many of whom described difficulties with concentration, procrastination, and retaining information, but who also revealed creativity, adaptability, and a strong preference for visual and task-driven learning.

A new online guide will help small businesses and independent retailers harness the power of digital technology and data to strengthen their operations, attract more customers, and future-proof their place on the high street.

Menter Môn, which delivers the Welsh Government-funded Trefi Smart Towns Cymru programme as part of the Transforming Towns package of support, has launched a free, downloadable toolkit designed to make crucial analytics and evidence more accessible to businesses across Wales.

From monitoring footfall to boosting online visibility, strengthening cyber security to using AI for smarter marketing, the guide highlights practical, high-impact areas where data can drive real results.

It draws on anonymised BT Active Intelligence data - including Wi-Fi analytics, LoRaWAN sensors, mobile networks, and ‘Bluetooth beacons’ - to demonstrate how information once reserved for big corporations can now be used by independents to make smarter decisions.

The guide is built with time-pressed entrepreneurs in mind, recognising many small high-street businesses are run by lean teams who can’t always attend workshops or events.

Instead, it offers straightforward, actionable insights supported by real examples of businesses already using data to cut costs, win customers, and adapt to changing patterns of trade.

A leading college unveiled a new facility designed to give learners a welcoming and supportive space to meet, relax, and access key services during their studies.

The dedicated Student Union hub at Coleg Cambria’s Yale site in Wrexham aims to enrich and promote wellbeing, inclusion, and personal development alongside academia.

Supported by Medr, the development has already proved popular with learners since opening its doors.

It brings together a wide range of support services under one roof, reflecting the college’s ongoing commitment to wellbeing, diversity, equality, and inclusion.

The hub also plays an important role in enhancing the overall learner experience – offering students a space to connect socially, take part in extra-curricular activities, and explore student-led opportunities that help them develop new skills and confidence beyond the classroom.

The hub is home to the Student Voice and Enterprise teams and serves as a focal point for clubs and societies, financial guidance, entrepreneurship initiatives, the chaplaincy, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme.

A clothes ‘swap shop’ and plans to collaborate with local sports teams on merchandise sales further highlight its focus on sustainability and community engagement.

Student Voice Engagement Coordinator Mark-Ryan Hughes said the concept had been in development for some time and that staff were delighted with the response from students.

A BELOVED independent school celebrating another record-breaking year is reaping the rewards of vision, investment, and a commitment to putting pupils first.

Despite national challenges facing the sector, St Gerard’s School in Bangor has continued to grow, investing heavily in its facilities, wellbeing provision, staffing, and educational opportunities to ensure it continues to deliver a first-class education in a warm and welcoming environment.

This year has seen significant development across its seven-acre site, including a £150,000 multi-use sports facility, extensive refurbishment of the Sixth Form suite and library, upgrades to parking and heating systems, and a striking rebrand to reflect its modern, forward-looking ethos.

The school is also building a new radio studio, enabling pupils to produce and broadcast their own podcasts.

To support this expansion and enhance its curriculum, St Gerard’s has welcomed new teaching staff to its sports department, strengthening its physical education provision and co-curricular offering.

Headteacher Campbell Harrison said: “At a time when many independent schools are navigating challenges, St Gerard’s has chosen to invest in its future.

“Our focus is, and always will be, on our pupils and their academic success, wellbeing, and personal growth.

“By investing in our facilities, staff, and resources, we are ensuring that every pupil benefits from a supportive and inspiring environment where they can achieve their very best.”

Students from Coleg Cambria today (Tuesday) launched the college's transformative Strategic Plan for 2025–2030, setting out a bold vision to exceed expectations through education, innovation and inspiration.

The plan reinforces the college's position as one of the largest and leading providers of skills, training and opportunity for learners, employers and communities across north east Wales and the UK.

With sites in Wrexham, Deeside, Llysfasi and Northop, Cambria has long been an anchor institution at the heart of the region.

The new strategy outlines how the college will continue to drive growth and prosperity, while ensuring its learners feel fully enabled, included and equipped to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Central to the plan is the college's mission: "Creating brighter futures through excellence in education by fostering skills and technical knowledge in a supportive and innovative environment."

Chief Executive Yana Williams said the new strategy is about much more than classrooms and qualifications.

"Our learners are at the core of everything we do," she said.
