Last Thursday we had the pleasure of screening the Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan films from Leisiau’r Carneddau—a powerful collection capturing the voices and stories of those rooted in the Carneddau mountains. What a great launch for the 'Parent's and Dad's Sharing Stories' films. We are so proud of these films that raise awareness of the emotional journey families of sexual assault survivors go through.

Thanks to
North Wales Police and Community Trust - PACT and Dave Evans for funding and supporting this project. This resource would not have happened without them.

Back in 2019 Andy from Wild kindness Films cic had the privilege to work with Amethyst SARC (sexual assault referral centres) in Colwyn Bay and North Wales Police and Community Trust - PACTon the Sharing Stories, Sharing Strength film - a project that empowered young sexual assault survivors to take their experiences to help other survivors. Sharing Stories shows the roadmap from disclosure to court and beyond for survivors.

Now in 2024 WKF cic got to continue that story, this time speaking with parents of survivors to understand their experiences. From those conversations we have made a collection of films. Some focusing on the stress parents suffer when this happens to their family, the strain it can put on their relationship and the guilt that lingers. We then explored the unique social pressures put on male guardians, questioning their role as the “protector” and the “family’s rock”, compounded by men’s tendencies to bottle up their feelings and rarely seek help for emotional distress.

We are so proud of these films and the amazing families that took part. It has been a great privilege to listen to their stories and we are in awe of their courage, determination and strength in taking their lived trauma and channelling it into something that will help others.
