Big Ben is one of the most famous landmarks in London. It refers to the Great Bell inside the clock tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster. The tower itself was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to honor Queen Elizabeth II during her Diamond Jubilee, but many people still refer to the whole structure as Big Ben.

The tower was completed in 1859 and stands 96 meters tall. It houses one of the largest and most accurate mechanical clocks of its time, with four clock faces, each measuring 7 meters in diameter. The Great Bell, known as Big Ben, weighs around 13.5 tons and chimes every hour, producing a sound recognized worldwide.

Big Ben and the clock tower underwent a major restoration starting in 2017, which included repairing the tower and the clock mechanism. The restoration work was completed in 2022.
