SM: On a final note, are there any funny mishaps/cock-ups that have taken place that come to mind when you think about your career so far?
SPG: Mishaps are inevitable and I prefer to call them ‘learning points’. Although, I do have some cool anecdotes. Carlton Cole loves LAHAD and will stop for a dance whenever he swings past, so does Marlon Harewood. One time, I was playing at a shirt signing event featuring my all time favourite West Ham player, Alan Devonshire. There was a long cue. Alan was signing shirts for two hours. I could see him bobbing his head to the beats. When he finished, he walked over, shook my hand and said “Thank you that was great, it was like you were playing quality tunes from my era, you kept me going”. My jaw dropped. I said, “Thanks, I was playing for you, and I want to say I thought only Glenn Hoddle kept you out of the England team, even though you had breath taking skills, flair and more pace”. Alan Devonshire is the most modest bloke. He smiled gently and said “I’m not sure about that”. So I have played records for my favourite football hero, he enjoyed it and said thanks. I happen to have the best Saturday job in the world.
