A few days ago I was tucked away on a writing retreat in Spain, working on my first book.

A few days later, I’m in Ibiza dancing until the early hours at 25 years of A State of Trance - and getting my photo taken with Armin van Buuren!

There was probably a time when I would have wondered:

Am I too old for this? What will people think?

Not anymore.

My book is called Living Each Day Like It’s Your First - and I don’t want that just to be something I write about. I want to live it.

At 57, I’m building my business, writing my first book, travelling, dancing and saying yes to experiences that make me feel alive.

Both are me. And maybe that’s the point.

Getting older doesn’t mean becoming less curious, less adventurous or less yourself.

And yes, I danced until sunrise and went straight to breakfast afterwards!

“Are you Colette?”

Oh God… what have I done?! 😂

I’m sitting at the airport waiting for my flight to Alicante when a guy in his 30s walks over with his mate.

My brain immediately goes into overdrive…

Do I know his mum? Does he work with Don? Is he a neighbour?

Then he says:

“I thought it was you when you walked past WH Smith. You coached me about a year ago. I got the job and I’m loving it. I told my mate that if another job comes up, he has to go to you.”

And just like that… my morning was made. ❤️

They’re both heading to Alicante too, although our plans couldn’t be more different.

They’re off clubbing in Benidorm.

I’m off to a remote retreat in Huércal-Overa to write my book. ✍️😂

But this is exactly why I do what I do.

Sometimes you don’t get to see what happens after the coaching session.

You don’t know if they got the job.

You don’t know if they’re happy.

You don’t know whether the confidence they found along the way made a difference.

And then, a year later, they walk past you in an airport and tell you.

Those moments are priceless.

I left a secure 38-year career to build a business doing something I genuinely love.

And today, somewhere between WH Smith and the departure gate, I got a little reminder of why.

Feeling very lucky. ✈️❤️

I’m getting ready to pack my bags for Andalusia… but this isn’t quite a holiday. 🇪🇸

I’m heading off on a book-writing retreat with Evelyn McAleer to work on the final stages of Living Each Day Like It’s Your First.

And it feels slightly surreal writing that.

What began with my mum and my experience of watching dementia gradually change the way she experienced the world has grown into something much bigger.

A book about change. Starting again. Courage. Loss. Opportunity. Purpose.

And asking ourselves:

Are we really living the life we have, or are we just sleepwalking through it?

I’ll share plenty of my own story - leaving a career I’d known for decades, starting again at 55, building a business and the unexpected opportunities that followed.

But one of the parts I’m most excited about isn’t about me.

Seven remarkable women have trusted me with their stories!

Seven very different lives. Seven different experiences of change, challenge and starting again.

Over the coming months, I’ll introduce you to them and take you behind the scenes as the book comes together.

And there’s a milestone I’m especially excited to share…

For now, though…

There’s something about September that always feels like a fresh start.

So this month, I’m asking:

Is it time to give your career an MOT?

I’m talking about taking a little time to think about what’s working, what you might want to change and what you’re ready to explore next - whether that’s returning to work, going for promotion, retraining, finding greater flexibility or doing something completely different.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Sometimes it’s simply about giving yourself permission to explore what might be possible.

And September has a special significance for me too - it’s two years since I left my secure career and took the leap to start my own business. I’m very glad I did.
