London Independent Photography and FLIP Magazine are delighted to announce that FLIP ‘Queer’ issue launch event will be at the iconic Photobookcafe on Wednesday 26th August 2026, 6:00 - 9:00 pm 🥳

With our Summer issue we explore q***r not only as LGBTQIA+ lived experience, but also as a way of seeing – through photography, essays and reviews that look beyond the binary, featuring newly commissioned articles by Laura Migliorino Frankie McAllister Nina Ijomone and others, projects by Gabrielle Motola F R A N C E S M A R S H A L L Robin Maurice Barr, as well as an interview with the artist Martin Seeds, review of Kraszna-Krausz Foundation 2025-shortlisted ‘Outside the Binary’ by Linda Bournane Engelberth, festival in Brighton & Hove, a photo essay by , and more! 🎉

🥁 SAVE THE DATE! 🥁

We are delighted that the award-winning photographer and filmmaker Rod Morris will deliver a talk at this year’s LIP AGM on Saturday 21st March 2026! 🥳

Through his photography and filmmaking Rod explores the space between stillness and motion, where images hold stories that reach beyond the frame. His work reflects on time, presence, and memory, often blurring the line between photography and cinema.

He’s collaborated with a host of clients including the BBC, Greenpeace, Oxfam, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, creating projects that celebrate art, people, and place.

He is the visionary director of ‘The Photo-Diaries of Mick Williamson’ (2022), which documents Mick Williamson’s ongoing photographic practice he established since the 1970s involving the daily use of a small, half-frame analogue camera.

In January, Rod featured in ’s ‘My Best Shot’ column by about photographers revealing the fascinating stories behind their favourite work, in which Rod reflected about the time he spent in South America in 1990s and the beating he took from Bolivian police for documenting the events in La Paz during a presidential election.

FLIP are delighted to announce FLIP Student Competition guest judge ! 🔥

Ian is a British artist, photographer, educator, and alternative printmaker.

In 1990s he became known for his photographic portraits of figures such as Justin Timberlake, Billy Connolly, Dame Vera Lynn, Belinda Carlisle, Helen Sharman, and Orlando Bloom 🎉

After more than 30 years in commercial photography, he completed an MA in Fine Art at , where he expanded into sculpture, sound, and multimedia installation. His multidisciplinary practice blends analogue photography, alternative photographic processes, mixed media, and sound — combining traditional craft with contemporary fine art vision.

In 2016, began a major shift in his practice with 'In the Mist', a meditative landscape series made in Hatfield Forest, following with still life studies and extensive work in historical printing methods, including gum bichromate. His print 'Gwen, “Did I Want To Be Here”?' — developed over seven months using a gridded gum bichromate technique — was created specifically for the Royal Photographic Society’s exhibition ‘Squaring the Circles of Confusion: Neo-Pictorialism in the 21st century’, blending technical mastery with emotional depth and process-based experimentation.

He has received multiple Honourable Mentions from the International Photography Awards and recognition from the International Colour Awards. In 2024, he was the only UK artist selected for Top 20: Gum Bichromate Photographers Worldwide, a curated exhibition at the Daniel Miller Gallery in Los Angeles ⭐

In his current project ‘Fractured Whispers’, Ian explores the remnants of the Celtic rainforests, drawing inspiration from their rich tapestry of myths, folklore, and imagination 🌿

FLIP are delighted to announce the first from our panel of six judges in FLIP Student Competition 2026 🔥

Sabes Sugunasabesan is a British Tamil artist and Chairman – a post he’s held for the last four years. He is a photographer and a mixed media artist who migrated from Sri Lanka and now lives and works in England. His art explores land, war, dispossession and memory.

His exhibition ‘Kunkumam’ is currently on at Quaker Gallery in St Martin’s Lane , a war memory project exploring the end of Sri Lanka’s long civil war in 2009 and its aftermath. The title of the exhibition refers to the bright red, turmeric-based powder commonly applied as a dot on the forehead by married Tamil women.

An essay about the project was commissioned and published by in 'Imperfect' issue (Summer, 2025) written by Dr Vindhya Buthpitiya ✍

FLIP are delighted to introduce Jo Stapleton , one of our FLIP Student Competition judges! 🎉

Jo is a Hertfordshire-based alternative process film and darkroom photographer. Her photographic practice focuses upon constructed realities approaches to construct and capture photographic moments or stories. Print making and alternative processes are integral components of her creative practice and image construction.

She is an active member of and , and LIP satellite group coordinator for Alternative Process group where she regularly runs workshops on cyanotype, salt printing, the Van D**e process, and more! 🔥

She has twice been a recipient of the Analogue Photography Grant from the Richard and Siobhán Coward Foundation and exhibits in the UK and internationally ✨

Jo’s latest publication ‘cartography’ features a series of cyanotype positive prints of trees shot on film and printed on hand-coated old ordnance survey maps of the British Isles, developed from a cyanotype printing experiment - working with old maps as a found source material 📷

Jo’s essay ‘Exploring the imperfect: breaking the rules with chemigram printing’ was published by FLIP in Imperfect issue (Summer, 2025) ✍
