Got to visit a special room in London where women were allowed to smoke for the first time.

Anyone who knows me knows I don’t smoke and I don’t like ci******es. But what I do like is equality and fair treatment of all people.

Sadly throughout history, not everyone has had access to the same rights. There were times women were not allowed to vote, no access to a credit card, not allowed to smoke, and many more disparities. Even today women are still not paid equally to men, and continue to fight for their freedoms.

As I got the chance to visit this room, I commend all those who fought for their rights, and I continue to pray for everyone in our world who cannot see or understand why every person deserves equality and the chance to live their best life.

What did I learn in London?

In addition to being an adventurer, loving all things that move, and searching the world for Dairy Free options, I’m also a Professor. I learn things every time I go anywhere, and to quote Anthony Bourdain: “Travel is not reward for working, it’s education for living.”

So here’s my lessons from London:

1. Contrary to popular beliefs, it can be very sunny here and have hot weather. It sure was HOT and it was beautiful. All my previous visits have been cloudy and cold (even in the summer).

2. The extreme heat is causing water shortages unlike anything the country has faced in over 70 years.

3. I can visit here a hundred times and do the “tourist” things over and over and they never get boring.

4. Teatime is a must and it’s worth it. Pick a great spot. The Swan and Peggy Porchen have been my favorites that have a dairy free/vegan option.

5. Pounds (money) is very expensive to dollars and our exchange rate is not good right now. It can make everything very expensive. Be careful in everything you buy because when you see the exchange into dollars you’ll certainly be shocked.

6. Pick a hotel that’s close to downtown London. I’ve stayed at many others outside the city and you can spend too much time going back and forth.

7. You cannot do it all. London is just too big. Pick some of the most important things you want to do and make a plan for them. If you get to more- great.

8. The London Eye is fun, but can be expensive. Use sites that give ‘buy one, get one’ offers, and make sure to go midday on weekdays for best pricing.

9. Double check when booking hotels if your breakfast is included. I wouldn’t spend more than $20 extra. If the hotel is charging too much, get breakfast on your own.

10. The days of ‘hailing’ a London taxi are over. You need to have several apps. There is not one app for all Taxis, and if you approach a whole line of taxis waiting outside a station, they won’t let you get in unless you booked on the app.

Of course I love the colors 😊, but I love the message too. With all the sadness, struggles, and challenges in our world, we can NEVER GIVE UP fighting for what’s right - kindness, love, and respect for all people.
