The Brooch was made in the mid 19th century by Garrard for Princess Augusta, Duchess of Cambridge, Queen Mary’s maternal grandmother. When Princess Augusta passed away, the brooch was inherited by her daughter Princess Mary Adelaide, Duchess of Teck, and the later by Queen Mary. Queen Mary favored the brooch for its beauty and family history. When she passed away in 1953, she left the brooch to her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II.

When Queen Elizabeth II turned 21 in 1947, she received many gifts of jewelry including this floral spray brooch from the Girl Guide Movement. This brooch is designed as three trefoils, the symbol of the guide badge, set with diamonds, rubies, sapphires and topaz. Over 500,000 members contributed a penny towards the gift.
