☺️ It's a rare experience to stroll beside a Giant combine harvester to capture a wildtrack during harvest time. However, a shoot for a prominent UK supermarket focusing on regenerative agriculture provided a genuinely uplifting narrative amidst the bleak practices of large-scale farming. By implementing crop rotation, allowing fields to rest, and nurturing plants and earth as partners rather than subordinates, this approach fosters greater biodiversity and enhances wildlife. It also reduces the reliance on pesticides and fertilizers while boosting crop yields and productivity.
Its a win win when stats say there are only 60 harvests left in modern day farming.

Starting at 5:00 am for a supermarket corporate shoot, it suddenly feels like summer has slipped away. Even the gimbal senses the chill. However, the sun made an appearance, and the filming went smoothly. Using a Sony FX3 with a Te****le Timecode device and separate audio rushes made the walk-and-talk intro effortless (it was thankfully a bit warmer once the sun was up).

In honour of London Pride 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes at London's Victoria Apollo. There, I filmed a powerful performance by London's Gay Men's Choir, consisting of 70 talented members, who sang for the cast of the renowned musical, Wicked. Their performance was met with enthusiastic applause from the actors.

The choir was impressively polished and well-practiced, accompanied by both piano and percussion. I captured it all with my Stereo M/S microphone setup (MKH 60 and Ambient Emesser ATE 208). With precise positioning, I managed to record everything in stunning stereo quality.

The event was filled with enjoyment, culminating in a brilliant public performance by the choir on the theatre's steps.

We often hear about how algorithms can limit our increasingly narrow perspectives. Yet, when they bring content like this to my attention, something I adore but would never have imagined someone creating, recording and spending time doing. It reignites my appreciation, for access to such imagination, artistry and creativity. The sounds are peculiar and otherworldly, almost hypnotic. Play on Danael3d!

The sun is shining and the first signs of spring are appearing after several sparse months. I finally have some noteworthy location sound work to reflect upon. March kicked off with an incredible chance to film segments at Westminster Palace and Parliament. Although arriving at 5 a.m. and having to undergo airport-style equipment searches was necessary, it didn't dampen the allure and privilege of accessing such a significant location. This was followed by a studio food shoot with a renowned content creator in London and a charity shoot for Young Lives vs Cancer in Leicestershire, along with various corporate projects for Barclays. And no, that's not my colleague trying to bring Emu back to life!

Recently, I collaborated with Superlative Films for a corporate project with Bupa in London. The shoot involved a round table discussion featuring eight participants, captured by five cameras. The conversation included organizational specialists, managers, and industry advisors who deliberated on future strategies to enhance the healthcare sector.

Conducting a site visit proved to be crucial, enabling us to efficiently manage the limited time available with our busy contributors. I identified the challenge of miking eight individuals within 30 minutes, and after consulting with the client, we opted for discreet lavaliere microphones. This choice eliminated the issue of clothing noise and removed the need for an assistant, thereby saving on expenses. Consequently, I was able to personally handle the micing process, conduct sound checks, and ensure the participants were comfortable and focused.

Two hours later, the full discussion was successfully recorded. We used a CL12 fader panel for mixing, and the audio was captured on 10 channels using my Sound Devices mixer recorder. Utilizing the TCS Ultra Sync One time code boxes ensured precise synchronization of audio and visual elements.

Working with audio every day as a sound recordist is an incredibly fulfilling job. Whether it's capturing the ambient sounds of the morning birds in the Amazon Rainforest, recording political messages from prime ministers, creating presenter links for daytime television, or documenting heartfelt testimonials from World War II survivors for factual documentaries, the work is always challenging, interesting, and engaging. That's why I find it fascinating to come across posts about sound that I enjoy sharing with others. Here, for your enjoyment, is the alphabet represented in waveforms.
