We’re book fair MAD this March and April 🎪📚️

This week we’re busy busy busy at Asteria Press prepping for our first ever in-person events. If you fancy popping in for a chat and to browse some great indie titles, you can catch us at any of the below venues:

⭐️ Farnham Literary Festival: Indie Book Fair | SATURDAY 7TH MARCH | Free Entry
This was a lucky last-minute table, as such we won’t have physical copies of our books to sell but will be handing out free sample chapters and taking book orders for delivery.

We will both be attending London Book Fair again this year, message us to arrange a meet up, otherwise catch us walking around with our new Asteria Press totes!

Good lord, these two are completely clueless.

The MacCraven Twins know nothing about their roots (see: royal, Elvish) or the importance of their upcoming birthday (see: “coming of age”). They think turning forty means one big party and then straight over the hill. Little do they know: the Elvish throne waits for no one. Talk about a birthday surprise.

Julia lives the perfect charmed mom life and Cordelia holds the title of the Crossroad’s favorite coffee slinger/slacker musician. They think they’ve got it all together. The joke’s entirely on them.

Their father (see: absent, grifter) showing up out of nowhere should ring some bells here. He’s about to turn these women’s lives into some bonkers fantasy sitcom. His Majesty’s messenger Elf (see: gorgeous, unattached) better get a move on and find the twins; nobody wants the Other Guy (see: boo! Hiss!) to inherit the throne. The twins need to suck it up for the good of the kingdom no matter how many misgivings they have about the matter. H’Armynlea is modernizing one way or another.

Look, royalty has rules. A flourishing kingdom comes before silly things like falling for the royal liaison.

✨ 🌙 Kingdom of the Moon: Character Art Reveal 🌙✨

Another treat for our lovely KoM fans, the character art for our favourite boys of exile, illustrated by and commissioned by Hayley-Jenifer Brennan. Aloof with a splash of mischief, we think both brothers have been captured perfectly here! Who is your favourite? 🥰

Handsome and suave, Xiahndere is freshly back from exile to re-unite with his royal cousins before their coronation. Nobody really knows why their family were banished in the first place, but Xiah is keen to make amends.

Born in exile, Scáth is the younger half-brother of Xiahndere. With a wraith-like presence, Scáth doesn’t pay others much interest but his cravings for food is insatiable.

✨ Dawn's Top Tips for Submission Success ✨

Are you curious about the ingredients that go into a successful manuscript submission? We recently caught up with Dawn on her top tips for approaching the process whether you are looking to query an agent or a small press. Here's what made it to her top five... 👀

1. Make the synopsis simple but holistic, pick up all the most important plot points of the story (it’s hard to leave stuff out, but it has to be done.）

2. Write the first few chapters and make them pop! (Especially after rounding back from the end. Does the first chapters set the tone of your story up for intrigue?)

3. Don‘t be afraid to go outside the box a little - I feel like the best stories are the one that don’t alienate the reader but also have unique bits that belong to the writer‘s vision.

4. Be sure that your story's worldbuilding and characters are consistent. It’s easy to tell if stuff are broken bits fixed together or if they are meant to be one thing.

5. Don‘t be afraid to go through with submission, even just to test your luck. It sounds easy but usually it’s the hardest part to let one‘s story be known .
