WE WON! 🏆🎬🌍

May Filmworks is incredibly proud to announce that ODILE has won BEST SHORT FILM at the Luleå International Film Festival 2026!

This is such a special moment for the project. The ODILE short film only began its international film festival journey in July, and following recognition from Cine Paris Film Festival and its Semi-Finalist placing at Serbest Film, we now celebrate the film’s first international Best Short Film award. 🙏🏾❤️

To see ODILE go from a story that began on the page to winning Best Short Film internationally is incredibly special.

This award belongs to the wonderful cast and crew of ODILE, whose talent, commitment and belief helped bring the film to life. Our heartfelt thanks to every single one of you. ❤️

And our sincere thanks to the Luleå International Film Festival for recognising our work.

The journey continues… 🏆🎬🌍

The project Ann Widdecombe believed had real potential. 💖

Following our tribute to Ann earlier today, we’re looking back at the official trailer for The Brit Divas Show — May Filmworks’ very first production, created and produced by Elsie Nemlin

Eight years later, the vision lives on... and there is more to come. 👠🎬✨

“I still can’t quite believe I created and produced this!” A huge shout-out to all our fabulous Divas and our brilliant Director, Linda McDonald Cairns, who helped bring that vision to life.

The Brit Divas Show. The journey continues. 💖👠

Remembering Ann Widdecombe: A Friend & Believer in The Brit Diva Show
10 August 2026
We were deeply saddened by the tragic death of Ann Widdecombe on 10 July 2026, whose kindness and encouragement towards one of our earliest and most cherished projects, The Brit Divas Show, have never been forgotten.
A few years ago, while we were seeking support to develop The Brit Divas Show for television, Ann took the time to exchange correspondence with our founder and Creative Director, Elsie Nemlin. She recognised the potential of the project and offered encouragement at a time when such belief meant a great deal to us.
The Brit Divas Show has always held a special place in the May Filmworks story. It was our first production in 2018 and remains a project with enormous potential that we still hope to bring to a much wider audience. To have someone of Ann’s public standing take an interest in what we were trying to build was something we greatly appreciated then and continue to value today.
Whatever one’s politics, Ann was a woman who never hid her faith or her convictions. She spoke her mind with courage and remained unmistakably herself throughout a remarkable public life.
We remember her today not simply as a well-known public figure, but as someone who took the time to encourage a young independent production company and recognise the potential of our cherished first production, The Brit Divas Show.
Today, exactly one month since Ann’s passing, we pause to remember her with gratitude.
Thank you, Ann. You will be remembered with gratitude by all of us at May Filmworks.
Rest in perfect peace. 🙏🕊️

How Did the Dying Victim Become the First Suspect?
23 July 2026
The murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak, who was fatally stabbed in Southampton on 3 December 2025, raised deeply troubling questions about race, justice and public trust. One question in particular emerged after the police bodycam footage became public: How did the dying victim become the first suspect?
That question led May Filmworks founder and Creative Director Elsie Nemlin to write the first edition of Lens & Mood – Brief Essays: Why I Respectfully Disagree With Henry Nowak’s Father: Public Anger Is Not the Problem. The System Is. The essay examines the case, the public reaction surrounding it and the wider questions it raises about equal treatment, institutional judgement and public trust. Issue 01 is available now on Amazon. Check it out HERE → https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0H9PFX89B

May Filmworks Hosts Nementaschen: Food, Art, Music & Community
18.07.2026
May Filmworks was delighted to lend its support to Nementaschen, a new community food-tasting experience created by an emerging local chef. Hosted by our founder and Creative Director, Elsie Nemlin, the event brought people together through food, culture, music, art and conversation.
The evening also showcased other creative talent, with live music from The Chief -Ouh , including a distinctive Baoulé interpretation of John Lennon’s Imagine, while a limited-edition print by artist Fulgence Niamba was won by 83-year-old Elizabeth in the evening’s raffle. It was a wonderful reminder of what can happen when local talent, creativity and community are given space to come together. Contributing our time and resources was our small way of giving back to the community while helping a new creative idea find its audience.
