Today, I had the honour of receiving my elder brother, Hon Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Member representing the good people of Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam Federal Constituency, House Commitee Chairman on Navy, on an official visit to the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI).

His visit, undertaken in his capacity as a parliamentarian, was aimed at exploring areas where he could extend support to the Institute, particularly in initiatives that advance digital skills development and capacity building.

During our engagement, we had in-depth discussions on the Pankshin-Kanke-Kanam Federal Constituency on issues of youth development. We also deliberated on possible areas of collaboration that would promote educational and digital opportunities for his constituents and strengthen the Institute’s impact.

I deeply appreciate his visit and the shared commitment to fostering development through collaboration. I remain optimistic that this engagement will open new pathways for partnership and yield meaningful benefits for the people of Plateau State.

The System Is Built Against You

It’s been quite a while since I last wrote one of my musings.

But this morning, I woke up with a strong urge to put something down. Maybe I’m speaking directly to someone today. This might not be my usual storytelling style, but it’s a truth worth sharing.

Let me say this as it is - the system is built to work against you.

And it’s important for young people to understand this early. When you know this, you stop being shocked when life gets tough. You stop waiting for things to be fair. You stop breaking down when plans don’t go your way.

No system - political, social, economic, or educational - was designed with your comfort in mind. Everything is structured to test your resolve.

And those who truly succeed are the ones who already know this.

Once you accept this truth, you begin to live differently. You don’t move around expecting things to work - you learn how to make them work. You stop seeing life as something that owes you, and start seeing it as something you have to take responsibility for.

When you start a project, assume it’s already failed - that your job is to make it succeed.
It sounds odd, but it’s powerful. It conditions your mind to fight, to think, to build resilience. It keeps you alert and ready to save your “boat” from sinking.

Maybe this is why so few people truly succeed - because success is a mindset game.

Remember this:
We are built to prove ourselves and others wrong, not to prove anyone right.
Know this and start working.

I remember reading about Peter J. Daniels when I was in JSS3 - a man his teacher, Miss Phillips, told would never amount to anything.

As a child, Peter struggled to read and write. Miss Phillips once told him, "You’ll never amount to anything!"

At 28, he went back to school - in a class filled with 14- and 15-year-olds - to learn again. They laughed at him. He would pick up a dictionary, ask one friend what a word meant, then ask another to confirm so he’d know the first wasn’t lying.

He failed every grade, was mocked, failed in business three times - yet refused to quit. Through prayer, faith, and unstoppable determination, Peter J. Daniels eventually built the largest real estate business in Australia.

And he didn’t stop there. He wrote an international bestseller. Can you guess the title of the book?

"Miss Phillips, You Were Wrong."

His story proves one thing - life will always test you, doubt you, and push back.

But once you understand that the system isn’t built to favor you, and that your job is to prove it wrong, you stop waiting for ease and start building your edge.

Click the "Share" button this if you feel inspired by it.

Today, I had the honour of welcoming the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, at the Yakubu Gowon International Airport, Jos. Together, we proceeded to the thanksgiving service at COCIN Dungung, Ampang East District, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, held in gratitude following the successful burial of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the APC National Chairman.

After all is said and done, may God grant us the grace to bury our parents, and not the other way around.

Prof Nentawe Yilwatda has once again exemplified true leadership and humility in the way he honoured the life and legacy of his beloved mother. I have no doubt that she would be immensely proud of the man and the family she raised. Though I never had the privilege of meeting her personally, her virtues shine vividly through her children - particularly in Professor Nentawe - whose life of moral integrity, spiritual depth, and compassion stands as a living testament to her nurturing and godly influence.

Even in death, Mama continues to uplift lives.

Her farewell has drawn people from across Nigeria - the high and the humble alike - including the presence of our dear President, whose deep affection for the people of Plateau State remains unwavering. And even on occasions when he could not personally be present, his beloved wife has always stood in for him, reaffirming his enduring respect and connection to the good people of Plateau. Such love and honour speak volumes of the mutual bond between the nation’s leadership and this great land.

Beyond the solemnity of the moment, this celebration of life has breathed vitality into the Plateau economy - hotels filled to capacity, businesses thriving, and families touched by the influx of visitors. Truly, Mama’s passing has not only united hearts but also brought blessings to homes and livelihoods.

Yet, we do not pray for more deaths to drive our economy; rather, we pray that Plateau continues to regain its economic strength through deliberate, purposeful action - the kind of deliberateness exemplified by Mr. President in his steadfast commitment to reviving and lifting Nigeria’s economy.

May God grant us all the blessing, strength, and grace to celebrate our parents with such honour and dignity when their time comes - just as we have witnessed today.

Rest in peace, Mama Lydia Yilwatda. You came, and the world truly noticed you.

Tin City Warms Up for President Tinubu as North Central Embraces Renewed Hope

By Sunday Dare

When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu berths on the plains and rolling hills that dominate the Jos landscape tomorrow, he will meet a people resourceful, friendly and resilient but weighed down by conflict, yet unbowed by adversity.

So, tommorrow, national attention turns to the Plateau- a locale laden with history and rich with potential. From the tin mines that gave the city of Jos its name, to the Irish potato, strawberry farms and beetroot plantations that dot its landscape, Jos remains a land of promise—truly the Home of Peace and Tourism.

Jos is also deeply woven into Nigeria’s political history. Plateau is home to towering figures such as Generals JD Gomwalk, Yakubu Gowon, John Shagaya, Joshua Dogoyaro, and Jerry Useni. Solomon Lar, Senator Ibrahim Mantu and numerous others also stand tall in the annals Plateau political history.

Jos was also the rallying ground of the famed Langtang Mafia—a group of influential military officers from Langtang in Plateau State who, at the height of their power, played a significant role in Nigeria’s political and military affairs.

The story of Jos is both exciting and excruciating. The city lost its innocence some two and a half decades ago, when the popular Terminus Market was reduced to rubble through acts of arson and looting.

Thus at the turn of the millennium by 2001, Jos—and by extension, Plateau—was thrown into a cycle of unending conflict. Ethnic tensions, clothed in religious garb, tore through the city and spread across the state, dragging Jos into an abyss of violence, almost of Kigali proportions. Peace gave way to war, and tourism jaunts became undertakings to the undertaker.

Yet Jos has never surrendered. Every time it is written off, it rises again—scarred, but resilient. With its multi-ethnic, multi-religious fabric, the Plateau continues to trudge on in pursuit of peace, development, and egalitarian ideals.

It was here, in Jos, that Nigeria’s democratic resurgence was birthed. The historic SDP convention, where late General Shehu Yar’Adua and Chief Moshood Abiola held sway, took place in this city. Jos gave political life to Abiola, our hero of democracy in 1992

Now, thirty three years later, another hero of democracy and of the June 12 struggle returns to the Plateau. President Tinubu’s return and visit to Plateau State is not just to honor the transition to glory of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, the mother of the APC National Chairman.

It is a visit that carries deeper meaning—one of empathy, solidarity, and renewed hope for a people who have endured decades of turmoil. It is a mission to preach peace, console the bereaved, bind wounds, and assure Plateau of its central place in the Nigerian project.

Mr President comes not just to mourn, but to reconnect. He comes to parley with the North Central, to commiserate with a people who have suffered, and to extend the hand of renewed hope. That Renewed Hope is laying a solid foundation as evidenced by Naira at N1,455 per dollar, rising Foreign Reserves at $43bn, Trade surplus heading for N25tr. Revenues up 411% and Inflation down to about 20 per cent. Over 600,000 students benefiting from NELFUND.

This visit is more than ceremonial. It is a journey into the very soul of a people who have known pain, yet remain resilient; a land scarred by conflict, yet still brimming with hope and promise. As the Tin City opens its arms, Jos will not just receive the President—it will receive a message of solidarity, healing, and renewal.

Tomorrow is about remembering the glorious past, confronting the present, and charting a path to a peaceful and prosperous Plateau within a united Nigeria. With President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Jos once again stands at the intersection of history and destiny.

Today, I celebrate a man of strength and conviction — one who stands unwavering for his beliefs and journeys the extra mile to show love and support to friends and family. I once said, "Everyone needs a Bash in their lives," and today, more than ever, I stand by those words.

Bashir, may this new chapter of your life unfold with even greater beauty and excitement. I wish you overflowing blessings, divine protection, and the fulfillment of every cherished dream by God’s unfailing grace.

As you continue to lift others, may heaven’s hands lift you even higher.

Happy Birthday, Mallam Bash — keep shining your light.
