Chicken wings and loaded fries are things I will NEVER say no to.. but just introduced me to broasted chicken!

Now while I love fried chicken..my biggest complaint is usually that it’s either greasy, drowning in oil or dry on the inside.

Fryzzy does things a little differently.

Their broasted chicken is pressure-cooked first and then fried, which means the chicken stays incredibly juicy while still getting that crispy crunch on the outside.. the chicken that doesn’t feel heavy or oily, but still keeps the flavour.

We tried a ridiculous number of wing flavours, including Buffalo Blaze, Ghost Drip, Tamarind Twist, Hot n Sweet, Sweet Mango and Algerian Drizzle. Each one had its own personality, but I loved mango and tamarind!

The loaded fries were loaded loaded and the chicken burger was a goodie for me. Chicken burgers can so easily end up dry, but this one was juicy, tender and packed with flavour without being messy for the sake of it… yes it was a lot of food but we came all the way 😆😆

Such a special week celebrating this icons 7th birthday 🥹

A little post of all the fun Ray’s had this week & a few throwbacks for my mummy heart 🥹🥲.. thank you for all the lovely messages for Miss Ray 🥰 she loved reading them

Miss Ray was very specific this year.. maybe that happens at 7 😂😂 a rainbow party with her friends, sparkly outfits, a chocolate fountain for breakfast, Olive Garden for dinner & cute luggage as her gift 😃 we love a practical queen 😂

But honestly I feel so lucky to be her mummy..I know all mums feel this way about their kids and rightly so..but Miss Ray really is such a special girl.. her light, energy & humour brightens our home every single day.. she is equal parts cute and sassy as well as sunshine and hurricane 😂😂.. but she also has the most beautiful & thoughtful heart.. I always admire how she remembers details about people.. at the end of the day when she knows I had something on, a lunch , volunteering or my swimming lessons.. when I pick her up from school, she would specifically ask me how that was the minute I see her but with genuine interest of my day 🥹😭.. she always asks the most interesting questions & has a deeply curious wonder about her.. sometimes I have no answers & she keeps me thinking too.. she is innately empathetic & can sense my emotions just by looking at me.. she is also so fiercely loyal & will always stand up for those she loves & for what she believes in.. we often get the brunt of that assertiveness and i hope she never changes 😂 she is also always saving her money to plan what to buy each of us for our birthdays .. and anytime someone offers her anything nice she always asks if she can take one for her sister 🥹 & if you haven’t already guessed she is the resident fashionista.. so she’s the one we run our outfits past before we leave the house 😂 if she says no it’s no 😭😂 she’s kinda bossing us around with outfits sometimes 🙄 and we don’t say it out loud but she lowkey scares us a little too 😂but more than anything else .. we love love love this girl so much and it was such a pleasure seeing her smile all week while celebrating her special day 🥹

One thing about Saffas abroad .. we are patriotic and when there’s a chance to support South Africa at absolutely anything we are there 😁 so we know anything about polo?? Well before yesterday.. no .. but I was a different woman when our boys were on that field .. and I were popping off with our screams and cheering 😂

Such a lovely day supporting South Africa on international day against England..

We left before the rundown so South Africa won! Woohoo!

we ran through amsterdam airport to catch the flight we booked because our eurostar home got cancelled 😆
this was our first experience of this but i’ve heard it can happen… and now this is exactly what to do if it ever happens to you

1. go straight to your app
do not wait in the queue at the desk. when a train gets cancelled everyone on that train needs to rebook at the same time. open your eurostar app immediately..there will be a rebook or cancel prompt. click rebook & move fast because seats on trains go quickly. we managed to get to the rebook stage but by the time we checked out it kept giving us an error… because everyone else was doing the exact same thing 😅
2. consider flying
when we couldn’t secure seats on another eurostar until monday (it was friday) we made the decision to book flights home instead. yes it was more expensive than the train. but we also have travel insurance which acts as a buffer & we were entitled to a full refund on our eurostar ticket
3. know what eurostar covers
staff were on the ground at amsterdam centraal with information cards and a QR code explaining your options. here’s what they covered:
hotel: up to £150 / €170 per room per night
transport to hotel: up to £50 / €60
food: up to £40 / €60 per person per day
keep every single receipt..hotel, food, taxis & submit them for reimbursement via eurostar.com after you get home
4. manage your expectations
staff are doing their best but when a mass cancellation happens it isn’t always possible to get everyone the exact journey they need. the app is your best tool. move fast, stay calm & always have travel insurance.
5. a word on schiphol airport if you’re flying as a backup plan
happy days we got a flight… but a word of caution. if you’re travelling on a south african passport or with children under 14.. the passport control queue is chaos😅 we arrived at the airport extra early specifically to weigh bags & have dinner etc & we were still RUNNING to the gate. the queue moved incredibly slowly & there were very few staff. at one point we asked if anyone with a later flight could let us move ahead which helped a lot…
but we were still sprinting to a gate that was a considerable walk away. our saving grace was that the plane was delayed 😂 not ideal but it meant we actually have dinner so we’ll take it.
if you’re in this situation at schiphol..arrive as early as humanly possible and factor in that the passport control queue can take hours. not even an exaggeration.
one thing that genuinely helped..we had already built in a buffer day. we always travel with the mindset that the last day is contingency. if everything goes smoothly it’s a bonus day to explore. if something goes wrong you have breathing room without it affecting work, school or plans back home. in this case it meant that when everything went sideways on the friday, we weren’t in complete crisis mode. with kids especially, we’d really recommend building this into any trip.
the honest truth is… things go wrong when you travel. this was genuinely inconvenient & stressful in the moment. but how you respond to a hiccup matters more than the hiccup itself. we stayed solution focused, the kids were absolute troopers & we made it home in time for school on Monday and an extra day of memories 😁

The Dutch may not always be the first people that come to mind when you think of foodie destinations… but here are some of the things we genuinely loved eating while in Amsterdam 🇳🇱

🍛 The best meal we had in Amsterdam was actually made by our South African friends in their home 😂 our friend is also head chef at Seafood Bar Amsterdam and made us an unreal prawns and roast chicken as well. Honestly nothing beats a home cooked meal after a day of walking around a city so this was very welcomed 😍

We heard we had to try bitterballen..which is traditionally a Dutch meat snack made with beef, we don’t eat beef but found a vegan option. Amsterdam is really very vegan friendly with loads of options everywhere.

We also tried Indonesian food which Amsterdam is genuinely famous for because of the Netherlands’ colonial history with Indonesia. If you visit definitely try rijsttafel which is basically a huge spread of lots of Indonesian dishes to share.

Also all the cheese .. So good. The cheesy loaded fries with Dutch mayo also deserved their own moment because their mayo is richer and creamier than regular mayo and I suddenly understood why people queue for chips there 😂 also chips are my comfort food so 🤤

The croissants and pastel de natas were pretty elite. Apparently Portuguese bakeries in Amsterdam have massively grown in recent years which explains why pastel de natas are literally everywhere.

Ray was OBSESSED with poffertjes which are these tiny fluffy Dutch pancakes usually served with butter and icing sugar. Very cute and she loaded her plate. When on holiday ay..

Then…stroopwafels. You need to have them fresh & warm from the market. Completely different experience to the packaged ones. We tried caramel & Nutella.. so good.
And lastly… we came across so many good Italian spots too. Between the pasta, pastries and fries..Amsterdam had us carb loading the entire trip 😍

Safe to say Amsterdam surprised me food wise.

As someone who grew up absolutely obsessed with Barbie… I think I was just as excited as the girls 😅

This wasn’t just an outing for them…It was a little trip down memory lane for me too.

I had the dolls, the outfits, the accessories… basically everything except the Dreamhouse. So walking into a life size version of one felt like healing a childhood wound I didn’t know I had 😂

Barbie: The Dream Experience is located in Amsterdam Noord and is easy to get to from Amsterdam Central. We actually walked across water for this one 😂 my last VLOG explains this

The experience takes around 90 minutes to 2 hours and there are over a dozen interactive zones to explore.

Some of our favourite parts in no particular order:

Walking through Barbie’s Dreamhouse
Sitting in the iconic pink Corvette
The Barbie salon where you can virtually try on different Barbie hairstyles
The fashion and career themed rooms
Interactive games & quizzes throughout the experience
The Dreamplane
The endless photo opportunities, which you receive to your email after the experience at no extra cost
Watching hubby slowly go from “I’m just here to take photos” to fully joining in 😂

One thing I loved was that it wasn’t just about looking at things. There’s so much to interact with & do. The girls ans I loved exploring every room & trying everything out.. Almost flashed everyone on the slide 😂

Tickets start from around €25 for adults & €19 for children, depending on the day and time slot.

A few tips if you’re planning to visit:

Book online in advance, especially during school holidays. We went on a weekday & around midday, did not feel crowded at all.
Give yourself at least 90 minutes.
Wear bright colours or pink if you want your photos to pop.. or for vibes 😉
Charge your phone because there are photo opportunities everywhere.
If you grew up loving Barbie, prepare for a serious dose of nostalgia.
Whether adults or kids , if you love Barbie.. you will love this experience.
And if like me you’re a grown woman who spent half her childhood changing Barbie outfits & creating elaborate storylines for her dolls… the absolutely go to Amsterdam just for
