In terms of economic mobility, according to The Henley Passport Power Index, Bangladesh has one of the lowest scores, only 0.96% and ranks at 182, the second lowest position in the index.

The economic mobility score ranks passports based on the percentage of global GDP each passport provides its holders visa-free. This score combines data from the Henley Passport Index and World Bank GDP data, revealing a clear link between passport strength and economic power.

Bangladesh's passport, in terms of economic mobility, is only better than Afghanistan's. Yemen, Pakistan and Syria are among the 5 countries with lower economic mobility score.

According to PDB, it had to pay Tk 17,156 crore as capacity charge due to the non-utilization of various power plants' capacity in the financial year 2022-23. Various business groups and private companies received the payment in the last financial year.

Analysis of PDB data shows that the Payra coal power plant received the highest capacity charge in the last financial year, 3,228.37 crores taka. Bangladesh and China jointly own the plant.

In the last financial year, Summit Group received 1,957.31 crores taka for seven power plants owned by the group. The capacity charge of the five United Group-owned power plants was 1,682.38 crores taka. The capacity charge paid to Confidence Group's six power plants was 962.64 crores taka. The capacity charge for BanglaCat's four power plants was 883.22 crores taka.

২০২৪ সালের ৮ মে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক ক্রলিং পেগ পদ্ধতি চালু করলে ডলারের বিপরীতে টাকার নতুন বিনিময় হার ঘোষণা করে। এর ফলে এক ডলার কিনতে ১১৭ টাকা লাগবে, যা এক বছর আগের একই তারিখে ছিল ১০৬ টাকা। ফলে, এক বছরে ডলারের বিপরীতে টাকার মান ৯.৫৬% কমেছে।

একই সময়ে ডলারের বিপরীতে ভিয়েতনামের দং-এর মূল্যও কমেছে। ভারতীয় রুপির দরও কমেছে।

একটি দেশের পাসপোর্টধারী নাগরিকদের বিশ্বের মোট জিডিপির কত শতাংশে ভিসা ছাড়া প্রবেশাধিকার রয়েছে তার ভিত্তিতে দি হেনলি অ্যান্ড পার্টনার্স পাসপোর্ট পাওয়ার ইন্ডেক্সে ইকোনোমিক মোবিলিটি স্কোর প্রকাশ করা হয়।

এই সূচকে বাংলাদেশের স্কোর মাত্র ০.৯৬% অর্থাৎ বাংলাদেশের পাসপোর্টধারী একজন ব্যক্তি যেসব দেশে ভিসা ছাড়া প্রবেশ করতে পারবেন তার জিডিপির আকার বিশ্বের মোট জিডিপির মাত্র ০.৯৬%। এই স্কোর নিয়ে সূচকে বাংলাদেশের অবস্থান ১৮২তম।

সূচকে সর্বনিম্ন অবস্থানে আছে মাত্র একটি দেশ, আফগানিস্তান। দেশটির পাসপোর্ট নিয়ে বিশ্বের মাত্র ০.৮৩% জিডিপির দেশে প্রবেশ করা যায়।

আফগানিস্তান ও বাংলাদেশের কাছাকাছি অবস্থায় আছে ইয়েমেন, পাকিস্তান ও সিরিয়া। সূচকটির শীর্ষে আছে ফ্র্যান্স, স্পেন, জার্মানি ও ইতালি।

২০২২-২৩ অর্থবছরে বিভিন্ন বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্রের সক্ষমতাকে ব্যবহার না করার কারণে ক্যাপাসিটি চার্জ বাবদ ১৭,১৫৬ কোটি টাকা দিতে হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে পিডিবি। বিভিন্ন ব্যবসায়ীক গোষ্ঠী ও যৌথ-মালিকানাধীন প্রতিষ্ঠানকে এই অর্থ পরিশোধ করতে হয়েছে।

পিডিবির তথ্য বিশ্লেষণে দেখা যায়, গত অর্থবছর সর্বোচ্চ ক্যাপাসিটি চার্জ দিতে হয় পায়রা বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রের জন্য। এ কেন্দ্রটির ক্যাপাসিটি চার্জ ছিল তিন হাজার ২২৮ কোটি ৩৭ লাখ টাকা। বাংলাদেশ ও চীনের যৌথ মালিকানায় নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে কেন্দ্রটি।

তালিকায় দ্বিতীয় স্থানে থাকা সামিট গ্রুপের সাতটি বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রের জন্য গত অর্থবছর ক্যাপাসিটি চার্জ দিতে হয়েছে এক হাজার ৯৫৭ কোটি ৩১ লাখ টাকা। আর তৃতীয় স্থানে থাকা ইউনাইটেড গ্রুপের পাঁচটি বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রের ক্যাপাসিটি চার্জ ছিল এক হাজার ৬৮২ কোটি ৩৮ লাখ টাকা।

পরের স্থানে থাকা কনফিডেন্স গ্রুপের ছয়টি বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রের জন্য ২০২২-২৩ অর্থবছর ক্যাপাসিটি চার্জ দিতে হয়েছে ৯৬২ কোটি ৬৪ লাখ টাকা। পঞ্চম স্থানে থাকা বাংলাক্যাটের চার বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রের ক্যাপাসিটি চার্জ ছিল ৮৮৩ কোটি ২২ লাখ টাকা।

Based on data from 7812 locations in 134 countries, the most harmful particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) was found in high proportion in the air of Bangladesh in 2023 (79.9 micrograms/cubic meter). Pakistan (73.7 micrograms/cubic meter) and India (54.4 micrograms/cubic meter) had the most polluted air after Bangladesh.

Switzerland-based IQ Air's Air Quality Report revealed the information.

According to the World Health Organization, an average annual concentration of more than 5 micrograms of PM2.5 per cubic meter of air is harmful to health. Bangladesh's air had 16 times more than the acceptable concentration level of PM2.5 over the year on average.

বিশ্ব সংবাদমাধ্যমের স্বাধীনতা সূচকে বাংলাদেশ গত বছরের তুলনায় দুই ধাপ পিছিয়েছে। আজ শুক্রবার (৩ মে) বিশ্ব মুক্ত গণমাধ্যম দিবসে রিপোর্টার্স উইদাউট বর্ডারস (আরএসএফ) ২০২৪ সালের এই সূচক প্রকাশ করেছে। সূচকে ১৮০টি দেশের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশের অবস্থান ১৬৫তম, স্কোর ২৭ দশমিক ৬৪। ২০২৩ সালের সূচকে বাংলাদেশের অবস্থান ছিল ১৬৩তম। স্কোর ছিল ৩৫ দশমিক ৩১।

সংবাদমাধ্যমের স্বাধীনতা সূচকে বাংলাদেশের বড় অবনমন ঘটেছিল ২০২২ সালে। ২০২১ সালের তুলনায় ওই বছর সূচকে বাংলাদেশের ১০ ধাপ অবনমন হয়েছিল। পরের বছর আরও এক ধাপ পেছায় বাংলাদেশ। আর এবার দুই ধাপ পিছিয়েছে। সে হিসেবে ২০২১ সালের তুলনায় ২০২৪ সালে তিন বছরে সূচকে বাংলাদেশের ১৩ ধাপ অবনমন ঘটল, ১৫২তম থেকে ১৬৫তম অবস্থানে নেমে গেল বাংলাদেশ।

বিশ্বের ১৩৪টি দেশের ৭৮১২টি স্থান থেকে পাওয়া তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে ২০২৩ সালে ক্ষতিকর পার্টিকুলেট ম্যাটার ২.৫ (পিএম২.৫) সবচেয়ে বেশি পাওয়া গেছে বাংলাদেশের বায়ুতে (৭৯.৯ মাইক্রোগ্রাম/ঘনমিটার)। বাংলাদেশের পর সবচেয়ে দূষিত বায়ু ছিল পাকিস্তানে (৭৩.৭ মাইক্রোগ্রাম/ঘনমিটার) এবং ভারতে (৫৪.৪ মাইক্রোগ্রাম/ঘনমিটার)।

গত মার্চ মাসে সুইজারল্যান্ডভিত্তিক আইকিউ এয়ারের প্রতিবেদন থেকে এই তথ্য জানা গেছে।

বিশ্ব স্বাস্থ্য সংস্থার মতে বায়ুতে প্রতি ঘনমিটারে গড়ে বছরে ৫ মাইক্রোগ্রামের বেশি পিএম২.৫ পাওয়া গেলে তা স্বাস্থ্যের জন্য ক্ষতিকর। বাংলাদেশের বায়ুতে বিশ্ব স্বাস্থ্য সংস্থার প্রস্তাবিত পর্যায়ের চেয়ে ১৬ গুণ বেশি ক্ষতিকর পিএম২.৫ পাওয়া গেছে।
