Chantal Cooke and Kenny Stevens, two radio professionals, dreamed of starting their own r

adio station. They wanted to create something new, something that had never been offered in the UK before; a radio station that would deal with health, personal development, ethics and environmental issues; that would be entertaining, informative and inspiring, balanced with great music from around the world. So, they did - and it's called PASSION for the PLANET. PASSION for the PLANET began broadcasting on digital radio on 10 Sept. 2002. In 2010 Passion became an Internet only radio station reaching over 50,000 people each month. It offers a unique blend of music and information that can't be heard on any other radio station in the UK. In 2004 Passion received a Special Commendation for the Best Radio Feature at the British Environment and Media Awards. Passion has been voted one of the top 10 digital stations in the UK by The Telegraph, and has received two green business awards from The Green Guardian, and a special commendation in the Triodos Women in Ethical Business Awards. Chantal and Kenny have spent over 20 years each working in radio and between them have launched nearly a dozen radio stations. Chantal has been passionate about the environment from an early age - writing her first environmental magazine at the ripe old age of eight! Kenny has presented radio shows across the U, as well as in continental Europe and Africa. PASSION for the PLANET is available on the Internet at http://www.passionforfreshideas.com

Everyday risks to your hearing: lawn mowers
Lawn mowers can reach up to 90 dB, while power tools can reach up to 100 dB or sometimes 120 dB. Using any of these tools for a minimum of 15 minutes can cause hearing damage. To reduce hearing damage when using a lawn mower or other power tools, use ear protection (such as noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs) and take breaks to reduce the exposure of noise to your ears.

Everyday risks to your hearing: vacuum cleaners
Vacuum cleaners generate around 70 to 85 decibels, and prolonged use can also cause long-term hearing damage. To prevent this, limit the amount of time you spend using a vacuum cleaner, and maintain a distance from the vacuum when using it. Some vacuum cleaners have built in noise reduction features, so try to reduce the volume of noise if you can.

Brits drink 100 million cups of tea every day. And it's estimated that the UK wastes over 2.5 million kWh of electricity by boiling more than we need. That’s enough to power almost 1,000 homes for a year.

TIP: Only boil the necessary amount of water, so if it’s a brew for one, a mug full of water is all you will need.

Everyday risks to your hearing: blenders
Blenders can potentially reach 100 decibels, which is deemed well above the safe sound threshold. Although blenders aren’t switched on for a long time, prolonged use will lead to damage to the inner ear. To reduce this risk, wear earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones, and take breaks if you are using the blender repeatedly. If possible, maintain as much distance as you can from the blender.
