Recording Agniola's story and listening to it one more time, I felt the power of her parents' love for each other, the love they shared with her, and the love in which the whole family basked.

The love was palpable.
Still very much there.
Soothing. Healing. Empowering.

Love never dies.

Agniola tells us about her mother's illness. And how through that tragedy, her parent's legendary love shined bright.

Bright enough to soothe the family. Bright enough for us to feel their love as we listen to this story.
Bright enough for her to continue to thrive on that love after their departure.

Love cannot die.

With Agniola. Way before knowing we would ever be podcasting.
So thankful that our friendship has grown beyond bonding over grief and pain. It is now fed with so much joy, fun and laughter. We have vowed to be friends longer than our dads were. We became friends a decade later than them. So 10 years down, 40 to go.

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone! This is a special one for Common Reality. Telling a beautiful, soul-stirring story; one where the power of love and the pain of loss battle to create the possibility of renewal.

I have the utter privilege of being able to share with you all my sister-friend Agniola's story. Her parents shared legendary love. They both passed away within 2 years of each other which brought her immense pain. Pain that took her close to the abyss. Before she found the strength and resolve to walk back from it, and soar into an even better version of herself.

She taught me proactive healing; and gave me new insights on the power of love.

Common Reality. Episode 6: On True Love, Grief and Renewal.
To be released today on Spotify and Apple.
Much LOVE to all. In all its forms.

The emancipation of women requires rethinking and redefining the value brought in a relationship by each party. Women can and do provide.

Modern women can be stuck in that transition - Making money, being financially independent and providing, yet still demanding that a man provide more than they do and creating unnecessary pressure on a partner.
The value of a partner surpasses the tangible, the physical or some rigid prescription. For both genders. A man provides way beyond money. A woman can choose to create beyond the home. We must retrain ourselves.

Legendary quote from French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir.

How much of feminine attributes are natural? And how much is a byproduct of what societies demand from women?

Are you fundamentally soft and delicate? Are you non-confrontational? Do you prefer to be vs. to do? Are your dreams and wants mostly focused on family?

And what if all those things were true for you as a woman, why do they resonate as ''suboptimal''? Who decided that? Why isn't softness just as powerful as hardness? Why don't we find creating and raising a phenomenal human being just as worthy as making something, or starting a company? Who made the feminine second-class?

You want to get to the C-suite. You want to accomplish outside of the home. And you want feminism to fuel those possibilities. YES.

She wants to devote herself to her children. She wants that work not to be free. She wants creating life with a workaholic high-earner not to be seen as a basic commodity, but as unparalleled value which is worth a large financial reward. She wants feminism to fuel those possibilities too. YES.

She wants both - devoting herself to family and raising her children, while accomplishing outside of the home. She does not want the time away from work needed to attend to her kids to be seen as a professional deficiency or some deficit to fill. She wants feminism to fuel those possibilities too, to fuel that duality. YES.

Whatever sub-team you are on, do not get carried away by thinking it is the most important one. Pulling the blanket to you will rip it apart.

Closing the capital gap between men and women is likely going to happen at some point.
What are the other ways to foster power-neutral, healthy dynamics between men and women?
Valuing all types of work, particularly homemaking. Lowering financial dependence.

Episode 5 is almost here!

My amazing friend Medesse shares with generosity and openness her perspective and experiences as a feminist. We talk about the life moments and the observations that ignited that light in her. We talk about womanhood: its joys, its challenges, and its shades. We talk about how society values women, the place it often assigns them to, and what can happen when they decide to choose their seat at the table.

My conversation with her made feel deeply grateful to be in sisterhood with her.

Thank you Medesse Sonou.

Dignity calls for honoring our humanity, respecting the very essence of who we all are as human beings.
When my dignity is being stepped on, it comes to you saying ''You are not as human as I am. You are not as worthy as I am.'' Right there and then the gap separating us becomes an abyss.
