Spicy Seafood Stew 🥘
A rich and hearty Spicy Seafood Stew packed with tender fish, shrimp, and shellfish, all simmered in a flavorful, spicy tomato-based broth. Perfect for seafood lovers who crave bold flavors!
# Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 jalapeño or chili pepper, minced (remove seeds for less heat)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 4 cups seafood or fish broth (or chicken broth)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 lb firm white fish (e.g., cod or halibut), cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 lb mussels, cleaned and debearded
- 1/2 lb clams, scrubbed
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Lemon wedges, for serving
# Instructions:
• Prepare the Base of the Stew:
Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, red bell pepper, and jalapeño. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.
• Add Seasonings and Tomatoes:
Stir in the smoked paprika and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook for about 1 minute until aromatic. Add the crushed tomatoes and seafood broth, stirring well. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes to meld the flavors.
• Add the Seafood:
Gently add the fish to the pot and cook for about 3 minutes, or until it begins to turn opaque. Add the shrimp, mussels, and clams. Cover the pot and simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the shellfish open and the shrimp are pink and cooked through. Discard any mussels or clams that do not open.
• Serve:
Ladle the spicy seafood stew into bowls. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges for a bright, zesty finish.
# Tips:
Serve with crusty bread or steamed rice to soak up the flavorful broth.
Adjust the spice level by using fewer chili peppers or adding more crushed red pepper flakes.
Add a splash of white vinegar or a pinch of sugar to balance the flavors, if desired.
