Bangladesh’s top archer Md Ruman Shana made history as he became the first Bangladeshi to win a medal in World Archery Championship on Sunday.

Ruman ended his campaign on a high when he outplayed Mauro Nespoli of Italy by 7-1 set points in the bronze medal deciding match of men’s recurve event in the Netherlands.

The minister said India was never a traditional player in the international wheat market and export of wheat only began about two years ago.

“Last year 7LMT wheat was exported and majority was done within the last two months when the war between Russia-Ukraine developed”, he added.

চুয়াডাঙ্গা জীবননগর উপজেলায় টাকার অভাবে চিকিৎসা করাতে না পেরে মুক্তার হোসেন (৪৫) নামে এক কৃষক বিষপানে আত্মহত্যা করেছেন। বৃহস্পতিবার (২৭ মে) সকাল ১০টার দিকে তিনি নিজ বাড়িতে বিষপান করেন। পরে পরিবারের সদস্যরা তাকে উদ্ধার করে চুয়াডাঙ্গা সদর হাসপাতালে নিয়ে গেলে কর্তব্যরত চিকিৎসক মৃত ঘোষণা করেন।

জানা যায়, গনিতের ক্লাস চলার সময় ক্লাস টিচার রফিকুল ইসলাম মাসুম মাতৃআক্তার রিয়া নামক এক ছাত্রীকে মাথায় আঘাত করে। ওই ছাত্রী জানায়, ভুলক্রমে ক্লাসে সাধারণ গনিত বইয়ের পরিবর্তে উচ্চতর গনিত বই নেয়ার অভিযোগে তাকে বকাঝকা শুরু করে। তারপর তোকে মেরেই ফেলবো বলে চিৎকার দিয়ে একটি শক্ত মলাটের বই হাতে নিয়ে তার মাথায় জোরে আঘাত কওে ওই শিক্ষক। এরপর অনেকক্ষণ বকাঝকা করার পর তাকে ক্লাসে চল্লিশ মিনিট সময় সটান দাঁড় করিয়ে রাখে। একসময়ে প্রচন্ড মাথা ব্যথায় সে বমি করতে করতে জ্ঞান হারিয়ে ফেলে।

ফের রক্তাক্ত মার্কিন শিক্ষাঙ্গন। তরুণ বন্দুকবাজের হামলায় টেক্সাসের এলিমেন্টারি স্কুলে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে মৃত্যু হল ১৯ শিশু-সহ ২১ জনের। গত এক দশকে এমন নারকীয় গণহত্যার নজির নেই আমেরিকায়। মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে এই মর্মান্তিক ঘটনায় শোকের ছায়া নেমেছে।

টেক্সাসের ওই স্কুলের মুখপাত্র সিএনএন-কে জানিয়েছেন, ১৯ শিশু এবং দুজন প্রাপ্তবয়স্ক এই হামলায় নিহত হয়েছেন। স্কুলের ছাত্র পরিচালন কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়েছে, অধিকাংশ শিশু দ্বিতীয়, তৃতীয় এবং চতুর্থ শ্রেণির পড়ুয়া ছিল। প্রত্যেকের বয়স ৭ থেকে ১০-এর মধ্যে ছিল। হামলার পর পুলিশের সঙ্গে সংঘর্ষে ঘটনাস্থলেই মৃত্যু হয় অভিযুক্ত বন্দুকবাজের।

"Bangladesh would spend $2.4 billion on foreign debt repayment in the current fiscal year, which would increase to $2.8 billion next fiscal. In the 2023-24 fiscal, $3.3 billion will be spent to pay off foreign debts, and $4 billion the following year," the minister said while comparing Bangladesh with Sri Lanka in a pre-budget discussion held online with newspaper editors and top executives of electronic media on Thursday evening.

After Finland's refusal to pay its natural gas provider Gazprom in rubles, Russia cut off the supply of natural gas to Finland on Saturday. This comes after Russia was incensed by Finland's application to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
