KOICA Alumni Association in Sierra Leone Hosts Digital Literacy Seminar for Government Officials
Thursday, 18th September, 2025 at the Western District Women Fellowship Hall, Kingharman Road, Brookfields, the KOICA Alumni Association Sierra Leone (KAASL), as part of its 2025 Capstone Project, hosted a one-day seminar on Strengthening Digital Literacy in Government Institutions. The seminar directly supported Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (2024–2030), bringing together 50 officials from 10 ministries to build practical skills on foundational digital skills and collaborative tools.
In his welcome, Mr. Usman Cherry Conteh representing the President of KAASL, highlighted KAASL’s role as a network of public servants trained through KOICA programs, committed to collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Alumni representatives shared powerful reflections: Mr. Ishaka Nyallay spoke of returning from Korea as “development ambassadors,” Mr. Abass M. Kargbo emphasized the value of cultural and diplomatic exposure, and Madam Aminata Omaru Tholley praised KOICA programs as the most impactful learning experiences she had encountered.
Training sessions focused on foundational digital skills (Excel, Gmail, and file management) and collaboration tools (Zoom, Teams, Google Docs, and SharePoint). Through live demonstrations, practice exercises, and peer learning, participants gained confidence in digital tools, improved collaboration capacity, and reaffirmed their readiness to apply these skills in their work.
The seminar concluded with a call to institutionalize regular digital literacy programs, expand training to advanced levels, and sustain alumni-led initiatives that support Sierra Leone’s governance and development goals.
The Seminar climax with presentation of souvenirs to all participants including some alumni members present.
Best regards
