SAINT ABDULLAH & JASON NAZARY live at Le Guess Who? Festival in Utrecht, November 2025

More footage that wavered temporarily in the digital ether and then vanished. A magical performance that went up a level when they were joined midway through on bass by the great LESTER ST. LOUIS of Elder Ones, WRENS and more killer collaborations than I could count on every finger and toe. I thought the top floor of Tivoli was going to disconnect from the rest of the building and float into the sky (well it is called Cloud Nine).

Re-upping this now because Moh and Naz are in the UK for two rare shows next week, both at beloved DIY spaces - Weds 29 July at the Old Hairdressers in Glasgow (my second fave city in the world) and Friday 31 July at the Horse Hospital in London (I know, you hate it, I kind of do too sometimes, but actually deep down I really really love it). Everyone should witness Naz beat the traps once in their life, and also witness the special ESP between him and Moh on the chopped up samples and electronic morse code. LGW is also well worth a visit, they always go the extra mile on the programming, and this year our good pal KMRU is one of the guest curators.

INCOMING REGGAE DISCO!!! Oh, wait, wrong account, I mean: incoming transcendental freeform drums + electronics + skewed sampledelia. Moh and Naz don’t play live very often as they currently live on different continents, but trust us, it is a very special occasion when they do get together, as we have witnessed first hand at previous throwdowns at Cafe Oto and Le Guess Who? Festival. The Horse Hospital is a very special venue in London also (squatted by David Bowie’s costume designer in the 70s and operating as an underground arts space ever since, their existence is generally precarious as they sit on a site of prime central London real estate potential, so you can just imagine the kind of sharks that are circling). I’ve also heard that Russell Square is the pseudonym of a top pop star but I’m “NDAed up to the eyeballs” as they say in Hollywood, so you’ll just have to show up on 31 July to find out who it is. Romans and Glaswegians! You also have an opportunity to catch the dynamic duo at the end of this month, Half Die Festival and Old Hairdressers respectively. Wiretaps For Oral and Evicted In The Morning LPs out now on Disciples. Both of them are busy boys with tons of other projects you should check as well - Moh with Eomac making great records for The Trilogy Tapes and Planet Mu, Naz with the great WRENS, millions of collabs, and going back a bit, the group Anteloper on International Anthem, alongside the late, great and much-missed Jaimie “Breezy” Branch. There are a million of other reasons to make it to this concert, the most important of which is that it will rearrange your brain, so I reckon head to the Horse Hospital website and grab a ticket before they’re all gone yeah? I will be selling DISCs at this event, and might even revive my dumb time-consuming habit of making a zine that is available for one nite only. SEE YOU AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HORSE RAMP.

What is that lurking in the Disciples garden? Nestled in the mint, propped up against the sedum, lost in the wild flowers? It is Further Combinations by Joseph Kamaru, a companion mini-album to the Heavy Combination career spanning double set we released last year. Obviously I am a very biased disciple, and think every release is a gesamtkunstwerk, but boy these ones really are. They both took a while to get out into the world for that very reason, but the coming together of life-affirming music + carefully remastered audio + proper liner notes (by someone intimate with the Kikuyu language) + brilliant imagery + beautiful design, results in something that I think is more than the sum of its parts. It’s difficult to ‘cut through the noise’ these days, and everyone has many demands on their time / attention / finances of course, but if these sounds move you in some way then please seek out the record via the shop or online platform of your choice. In the meantime, we will keep “pounding the rock” as Harry Kane advises.
