The B-24 Liberator: An RAF Workhorse
Often overshadowed by the B-17 Flying Fortress, the B-24 Liberator was actually built in greater numbers than any other US military aircraft.
🇬🇧 The RAF was its second-largest operator, receiving more than 2,000 Liberators. They served in the Middle East, became the RAF’s principal strategic bomber in the Far East from 1944, and played a vital role with Coastal Command against Germany’s U-boats.
But the Liberator’s story didn’t end with WWII. Former RAF aircraft continued in service with the Indian Air Force until December 1968.
🇮🇳 In 1974, the Indian Government presented the Liberator now displayed in Hangar 5, London, to the Museum.
A remarkable aircraft with an even more remarkable service history. ✈️
