বৃহত্তর সিলেটবাসী এবং বিশ্বব্যাপী প্রবাসী রেমিট্যান্স যোদ্ধারা অবিলম্বে সিলেট অঞ্চলের যোগাযোগ ও আন্তর্জাতিক সেবাখাতে উন্নয়নের দাবি জানিয়েছে। দীর্ঘদিনের অবহেলা ও বৈষম্যের প্রতিবাদ জানিয়ে তারা সরকারের কাছে পাঁচ দফা দাবি উপস্থাপন করেন।

দাবিসমূহ:
১) সিলেট ওসমানী আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরে আগামী নভেম্বর মাস থেকে কাতার এয়ারওয়েজ, সৌদি এয়ারলাইন্স এবং এমিরেটস এয়ারলাইন্সের আন্তর্জাতিক ফ্লাইট স্থায়ীভাবে চালুর সরকারি ঘোষণা দিতে হবে।
২) সিলেট ওসমানী আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরের যাত্রী সেবা, ইমিগ্রেশন সেবা ও কার্গো সেবা আন্তর্জাতিক মানে উন্নীত করে অভিজ্ঞ বৈদেশিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের কাছে পরিচালনার দায়িত্ব দিতে হবে।
৩) সিলেট-ঢাকা এবং সিলেট-চট্টগ্রাম মহাসড়ক জরুরি ভিত্তিতে চার লেন ও ছয় লেনে উন্নীত করতে হবে।
৪) সিলেট-ঢাকা এবং সিলেট-চট্টগ্রাম রেললাইন চার লাইনে উন্নীত করে আধুনিক দ্রুতগতির ট্রেন সার্ভিস চালু করতে হবে।
৫) প্রবাসীদের কল্যাণে বিদেশে বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসগুলোর সেবার মান উন্নত করতে হবে এবং প্রবাসীদের ভোটাধিকার নিশ্চিত করতে দূতাবাসের তত্ত্বাবধানে ভোট প্রদানের ব্যবস্থা চালু করতে হবে।

সিলেটবাসী মনে করেন, দেশের অর্থনীতির গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশীদার হিসেবে সিলেট অঞ্চল ও প্রবাসীরা দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বঞ্চনার শিকার। তাই দ্রুত এসব দাবি বাস্তবায়নের জন্য সরকারের প্রতি জোর আহ্বান জানানো হয়েছে।

Five-Point Demand from Greater Sylhet: Immediate Government Action Required

The people of Greater Sylhet along with expatriate remittance contributors have urged the government to take immediate steps to improve air connectivity, road and rail infrastructure, and foreign services linked to Sylhet. They have placed a five-point demand for long overdue development.

Demands:

1. The government must officially announce the permanent operation of Qatar Airways, Saudia Airlines, and Emirates Airlines at Sylhet Osmani International Airport starting from November.

2. Passenger services, immigration, and cargo operations at Sylhet Osmani International Airport must be upgraded to international standards and managed by foreign expert organizations.

3. Sylhet–Dhaka and Sylhet–Chattogram highways must urgently be expanded into four and six lanes.

4. Sylhet–Dhaka and Sylhet–Chattogram railway lines must be expanded to four tracks with modern and high-speed train services.

5. Services at Bangladesh embassies abroad must be improved for expatriates, and voting facilities must be introduced under embassy supervision to ensure expatriate voting rights.

The Greater Sylhet community believes that despite being a major contributor to the national economy, the region has been neglected for decades. They called upon the government to take swift action to implement these demands.

The grave of Bangladesh’s Commander-in-Chief during the Liberation War of 1971, General Muhammad Ataul Gani (M.A.G.) Osmani, is located at the holy shrine premises of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) in Sylhet.

Special Contributions of General Osmani:

a) He served with distinction in the British Army during World War II, where he proved his exceptional military leadership and strategic capability as a commissioned officer.

b) In 1965, during the Indo-Pak War, he commanded military operations on the Lahore front under the Pakistan Army and played a significant role in defending the region.

c) In 1971, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Liberation Forces (Mukti Bahini), he led the war of independence with unmatched strategic brilliance. His leadership, courage, and unparalleled military planning led to the surrender of 99,000 Pakistani soldiers, the largest surrender since World War II — creating a historic example in global military history.

Despite role in achieving Bangladesh’s independence, it is deeply regrettable that General Osmani was never awarded the title of Field Marshal posthumously, nor has his vast legacy been adequately included in the national curriculum.

He lived a life of honesty, sacrifice, and patriotism — dedicating his wealth, talent, and entire life to the welfare of the common people.

We pay our deepest respect to the immortal memory and heroic legacy of General M.A.G. Osmani — the valiant son of the soil.

বাংলাদেশের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সর্বাধিনায়ক জেনারেল মোহাম্মদ আতাউল গনী (এম. এ. জি.) ওসমানী এর সমাধি সিলেটের হযরত শাহজালাল (রহ.) দরগাহ শরীফ প্রাঙ্গণে অবস্থিত।

জেনারেল ওসমানীর বিশেষ অবদান:

ক) তিনি দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সময় ব্রিটিশ সামরিক বাহিনীতে কমিশনপ্রাপ্ত অফিসার হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করে অসাধারণ নেতৃত্ব ও যোগ্যতার পরিচয় দেন।

খ) ১৯৬৫ সালের ভারত-পাকিস্তান যুদ্ধে পাকিস্তান সেনাবাহিনীর অধীনে লাহোর সীমান্তে সামরিক নেতৃত্ব দেন এবং কৌশলী নেতৃত্বের মাধ্যমে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সফলতা অর্জন করেন।

গ) ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর সর্বাধিনায়ক হিসেবে তিনি অসাধারণ রণকৌশল ও বীরত্বে নেতৃত্ব দেন। মাত্র নয় মাসের সশস্ত্র সংগ্রামে তাঁর কৌশলগত পরিকল্পনা ও দূরদর্শী নেতৃত্বে ৯৯ হাজার পাকিস্তানি সেনাসদস্য অস্ত্রসমর্পণ করতে বাধ্য হয়, যা বিশ্ব ইতিহাসে বিরল ঘটনা।

কিন্তু অত্যন্ত দুঃখজনক যে, জাতির এই শ্রেষ্ঠ সেনানায়ককে মরণোত্তর ফিল্ড মার্শাল উপাধি প্রদান করা হয়নি এবং তাঁর ঐতিহাসিক অবদান পাঠ্যপুস্তকে যথাযথভাবে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করা হয়নি — যা জাতির জন্য বেদনাদায়ক।

দেশপ্রেমিক এই মহানায়ক তাঁর জীবন, সম্পদ ও সামর্থ্য গরিব-দুঃখী মানুষের কল্যাণে উৎসর্গ করে গেছেন।

আমরা গভীর শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করছি মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সর্বাধিনায়ক জেনারেল এম. এ. জি. ওসমানীকে—যিনি ইতিহাসে অমর হয়ে আছেন।

সিলেট-ঢাকা রেলপথে ডাবল লাইন নির্মাণ, নতুন ট্রেন চালু ও রেলের সার্বিক মানোন্নয়নের দাবিতে আজ সিলেটবাসী এক ব্যতিক্রমী প্রতিবাদ কর্মসূচি পালন করেন।
প্রতীকীভাবে তারা রেললাইনে ১০ মিনিট শুয়ে থেকে সরকারের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করেন।

প্রতিবাদকারীরা বলেন, বহু বছর ধরে সিলেটবাসী রেল যোগাযোগের উন্নয়ন থেকে বঞ্চিত। একের পর এক প্রতিশ্রুতি ও স্মারকলিপি দেওয়া হলেও বাস্তব পদক্ষেপ দেখা যায়নি।

তাদের দাবি—অবিলম্বে

সিলেট-ঢাকা রেলপথে ডাবল লাইন নির্মাণ,

নতুন এক্সপ্রেস ট্রেন চালু, এবং

ওসমানীনগর ও ফেঞ্চুগঞ্জসহ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্টেশনগুলো আধুনিকীকরণ করা হোক।

একজন আয়োজক বলেন,

> “এটা শুধু প্রতিবাদ নয়—এটা সরকারের কাছে একটি জাগরণের বার্তা। রেমিট্যান্সে দেশের অর্থনীতি সচল রাখছে সিলেট, অথচ উন্নয়নের ক্ষেত্রে আমরা বারবার উপেক্ষিত।”
