‘The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny’ by Kiran Desai.
Review:

“The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny” is a quiet, emotionally resonant study of two individuals who occupy the same world yet feel disconnected from it in entirely different ways.

What makes the story interesting is that Sonia and Sunny are close, yet they still feel alone. They both care, but they don’t open up to each other.
It’s like they’re standing on opposite sides of a small bridge but never step forward.

Overall

The story gently shows that loneliness can look different for everyone — sometimes quiet and thoughtful, sometimes smiling on the surface. Sonia and Sunny are relatable because many people have felt exactly what they feel.

For me, this is a very successful Marian Keyes novel. It blends her trademark humour with real emotional stakes. Anna is a compelling, multi-dimensional character: her mid-life crisis doesn’t feel like a cliché, but a genuinely relatable turning point. The romance with Joey is satisfying and complicated — Keyes doesn’t take the easy route.

If you have not read Marian Keyes’ latest novel’ My Favourite Mistake’ please do, great book to read during the colder months.

Review: Our Beautiful Mess by Adele Parks

Adele Parks delivers another gripping domestic thriller with Our Beautiful Mess — a story that proves even the happiest families can hide devastating secrets. The novel begins innocently enough: Connie is thrilled to have her daughters home for the holidays, but when her eldest, Fran, introduces her new boyfriend Zac, everything starts to unravel. Connie can’t shake the feeling that Zac reminds her of a mistake she thought was long buried — and from that moment on, tension crackles through every page.

Parks does what she does best: she pulls you deep into the emotional heart of a family while slowly twisting the knife of suspense. The characters feel real — flawed, loving, desperate — and the mix of family warmth and creeping dread makes this a true page-turner. The story moves quickly, with short, sharp chapters and reveals that keep you guessing who’s telling the truth and who’s protecting a lie.
