Making a good song used to be the hard part 👀

has been in for 20 years.

When they started, sounding professional took money and proper studio time. These days anyone can make something that sounds banging from their bedroom.

Which means a good song isn’t enough anymore. Listeners will just hit next and find another good song by another artist w cool photos. ✨

Pat’s answer: community.

The Maine built theirs by sitting on MySpace replying to anyone who ever listened, then actually going for food w fans after shows.

20 years and 10 albums later, that community has its own festival and its own tattoos 🤘

Collaboration is an amazing thing BUT only if you can leave your ego at the door!

You gotta remember - if you wanted to be in the room with these people in the first place - you gotta trust the process and that persons taste - and you could make something really special 🙂‍↕️

With all of the crazy AI stuff that’s happening - and the world having to question more and more ‘is this real’ - we’re already starting to see fans and artists go more towards things that AI can’t replicate, like live music 🖤

For all of the downsides that come with the music industry in 2026, we do often forget that this is arguably the greatest opportunity there has ever been for independent artists to make a living from their music 🖤

Social media removes the gatekeepers, and whilst yes, you have to play some algorithm games, if you are making good content, nurturing a fan base, and staying consistent, it has never been easier to get your music in front of people that will love it and therefore make a living from your music!

Forget trends, forget what’s happening right now, and instead make music that YOU love 🖤

It’s easy to try and write a hit - but by the time your song comes out trends have moved on, so as shares, the best music comes from writing honestly, and backing what you love.

Sometimes embracing not being accepted, especially in the conventional world music industry (like record labels, etc.), can actually be your superpower!

is an amazing example of sticking to your guns and what makes you different and what makes you excited, and how it can reward you in the long run. 🙂‍↕️

If you hear a song for the first time and absolutely adore it, and then you later find out it was entirely made with AI, do you care? 🤔

There's lots of debates on both sides, but we think it's fair to say that one thing that is universally shared by people on both sides of this conversation is that the emotion, stories, and pure feelings that go into human songwriting will not be replicated by AI.

This is from an incredible episode with . Comment ‘KRISTIN’ and we'll send you the full show x
