People always ask, "When are you next on holiday?" ✈️🌴
As a travel agent, people often think we're constantly jetting off just for fun. But the truth is, familiarisation (fam) trips are the absolute opposite of a holiday!
They can involve long, jam-packed working days, endless site inspections, and often attending and networking with people you’ve only just met. It’s hard work, but I’ve always walked away enriched and full of first-hand knowledge that I love passing directly on to my clients.
This morning, Google Photos served up a proper blast from the past: me in the 90s on one of my very first-ever educational trips when I started out in travel in my late teens! 🌍✨
This was with Trek America (sadly, one of the many wonderful companies that didn't survive the pandemic). It was my first exposure to small-group touring, and it left an impression that stays with me to this day—shaping how I design and look after my own clients' journeys now.
So, next time someone asks when my next "holiday" is, just know I’m probably out there doing the homework! 😉🎒
What’s the best "work trip" memory you’ve ever had?
